9 fight win streak in the UFC. Last fight was a draw in which most people thought he won.

The guy he fought to draw with (Jan Blachowicz) is basically getting a #1 contender fight next.

No news on Ankalaevs next move. Is he on the outs with the company?

He did talk shit about the UFC after the fight IIRC, would be a shame I see him having a very good chance of becoming Champ.

Maybe just further ammunition behind the theory hypothesis that UFC doesn't hype fighters; either the fighters get hype and then UFC favoritism, or they don't.

And shit, he seems to have less hype machine behind him than Belal does.

Yes, they definitely do for several reasons. There was a clear agenda after his last fight.

I can’t fully blame them, though. Ank might be the best in the division, but his style is somewhat boring and he often lacks a sense of urgency. He doesn’t have the same killer instinct as Khabib/Islam/Umar, you can tell he’s more acquaintance than family.

He's not marketable. He looks like Kadyrov and Khabib's long lost love child. No cool nickname. No funny personality like Khabib had. No asshole personality like Islam has. No charming personality like Zhabit has. No really antagonistic personality like Khazmat has.

Just a fricken guy

He hasn’t really been calling for much and the division has to move on eventually, Jan and Pereira are fighting, Johnny Walker just put himself in the top 5, Jiri will probably be coming back soon..

he’s just not in a good spot right now and Jan vs Pereira is also a much more exciting match up entertainment wise and name wise. He should be calling for the Johnny Walker fight, it actually makes sense right now.

The UFC actually hates all their fighters sir lol.
Lmao. You have a knack (hope i spelled it right?) for expressing the truth. I must also agree this time.

UFC/Dana on hate mode lately. Actually more now than ever before. Don't like where this is going.

Atleast we have 290/291 to look forward to

He's often boring. Dana hates that and will do anything to avoid giving a decisionator a title shot.
Look at Jiri; he came into the UFC interesting and exciting and got a title shot. Jamal Hill was active and exciting and got a title shot.
Be boring, get mostly decisions, and you're going to need a 10 fight win streak to get a title shot. Just ask Leon Edwards.

I don't think they hate him, but he's not one of their favorites. If he talked trash (even through a translator) or fought more recklessly, he would be getting a bigger promotional push. And that's not a knock on him - it says more about how lazy and inept UFC actually is at the task of promoting worthy fighters.

UFC basically wants the fighters to sell wolf tickets, do hot takes on social media, fight recklessly, and never complain. That's why Chandler (or Paddy, etc) is going to be on PPV even if he goes 0-5 to close out his career, while a dude like Ankalaev or Umar Nurmagomedov are going to get ignored and passed over (until they're needed to fill in for a main event, and then it's Rogan yelling at us how "this guy is a monster, once in a generation talent, world class").

they've gone sour on him for sure, his main event spots against Santos and Jan were uninspired and the aftermath of the Jan fight didn't do him any favors.

I do feel like they were really banking on him beating Blachowicz tho.

I do. Guy is as insufferable of a whiner as I've come across in this sport. His last fight was judged perfectly. He's lucky it was changed from 3 rounds to 5 rounds on a day's notice and he was fighting a 40 year old. Because he would've lost and was in danger of getting finished in the rounds that both he and his opponent had prepared for.

I'm glad I was able to witness his hilarious last-second capitulation to Bearjew in person.
