Cardio will not hinder muscle growth if its in moderation, you gain mass by consuming more calories then you burn, cardio activities burn high amounts of calories. So as long as your consuming more then enough calories you can do cardio and gain weight.. the more cardio you do though obviously the harder weight gain is.
likkuid said:um.....i just did about an hours workout of lifting, and then ran about a mile. i heard if you run right after muscle work ur body dips into its fat storage or something (cuz you used your muscle oxygen, something something???). im trying to gain muscle, but i want to lose a few pounds as well (just around gut, im not heavy but i want to). id like lean muscle, however..... i heard you can lose wegiht and gain muscle at hte same time (well, its much less effective then focusing on one, then the other), but will i have lean muscle, or build muscle endurance this way?? if you dont understand ill rewrite, im tired sry lol.

JT RIPPER said:you actually burn your muscle glycogen, not oxygen. oxygen in the muscles comes from the ATP/CP system which is a whole other book right there. basically, doing a lot of cardio can burn off your muscle tissue if you're not consuming enough calories to support maintenance and/or growth of new muscle. regardless of your macronutrient ratios, you still have the bottom line of calories in vs calories out. what you can do is figure out how many calories you need for your daily maintenance and then add in according to your activities. when in doubt, add in extra calories in the form of protein. this way, you're doing what you can to retain all of your muscle tissue and your body will burn carbs and/or fat for energy.
keep one thing in mind, its pretty difficult to gain muscle AND lose fat at the same time. as someone above me suggested, try doing the bulking or muscle building phase first and then move onto a cutting phase
I have the Casettes... that's right: OLDSCHOOL!
For my money they may be the best cardio all the wannabe fighters who will never step into a gym and train for real who come on here will get. Will they destroy muscle? Look, train right, eat right, lift heavy, and you won't have to worry about this shit. IMO, unless you['re a complete fatass, concerning yourself with losing bodyfat (like those last four abs) is a waste of time. You would be better off spending that energy improving your lifting, cardio and diet regimens. If you just fucking start working, you would be suprised how little the concerns you have actually matter.
You want to check out post dates before you respond this thread looked like it solidly died in 06.
