I was thinking if that fight actually happened like it was supposed to, does it play out any different than what we saw vs barboza? I think tony might have better take down defense but it probably wouldnt be enough. It seems khabib smothers almost everyone in the division. Its dominant, but something is missing in his fights. Its like watching GSP without the jab. We already know conor gets humped to death if he cant ko him quickly.

tony strikes off his back, and scrambles. so yeah

It will be interesting to see if Tony will be able to use striking off his back since Khabib likes to trap guys arms behind their back and or put them in crucifixes so they feel completely helpless

no.

khabib wrestles the fuck out of Tony.

than a super fight for 2 titles khabib - tyron.

Tony is a much better grappler and sub-artist.

He is always looking for chokes and is very offensive off his back.

This fight literally determines who is the greatest LW on earth.

Both guys are absolute beasts.

Yes, definitely. I think Khabib will take him down and ground and pound him like how Lee did to Tony but Tony is a DOG and won't sit there like Edson he'll elbow the shit outta Khabib and the question would be if Khabib would break or continue on. We all know both of em have excellent conditioning but we have only seen Khabib completely maul his opponents while never breaking. On the other hand, Tony's fights have been dog fights but he has never cracked. Will be a interesting fight when its made for sure.

I think so as well. Its easy to oversell fighters after their last fight but all of khabibs have looked similar. Dominant wrestlefucking with some decent G n P. He needs to do just a little more to get out of ben askren territory of dry humping. UFC dont like that shit.

They're so vastly different as fighters that trying to comp them requires all sorts of mental gymnastics. Same for trying to use Ferg/Barboza to determine anything re: Khabib/Ferg.

Tony attempts to keep Khabib in his guard and threaten subs. He'll be wild to try and get in favorable positions.

Tony can catch Khabib in chokes in the clinch and off his back and deal some elbows from the ground but he's easier to take down than Barboza (much easier).

I can definately see it playing out like that and would be probably the best chance of winning for tony.

Yeah, he'd definitely get taken down, might even fancy his chances on the ground, but he's stubborn. He'll do anything he has to. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how he'll deal with the odd positions Khabib fights out of and how he ties up limbs. It'll be interesting to see.

This. Tony won't be uncomfortable on his back, and he can elbow Khabib from his back too. Also, he won't get "shook" like Barboza did after R1 (not that Barboza didn't try in R2 and R3) since he's a crazy motherfucker. Tony can also pressure Khabib on the feet with his cardio and can punch. Easily Khabib's hardest matchup.

I do not think he cares (and should not), this is enough to clean the division, twice if necessary

If you believe that Tony didn't really try to defend Lee's takedowns then it could be interesting. Also Tony has amazing BJJ and won't be just defensive one it goes to the ground. It's hard to imagine Tony not getting demolished although he probably has the best shot in the division. He's really crafty with his strikes and has underrated power.

not that barboza was shook. just that his only thought was "get back up". instead of "ok get to full guard, and work from there."

full guard is position 1. you can get up from there, sub attempts, scrambles, reverses. But so many mma fighteres think they can just spring up from bottom. seriously it dosnt matter the position, these guys are just trying to pop back up instead of goin step by step. look at any tony ferguson fight that hes been taken down in. dude gos right to full guard every chance he can if his opponent is passed it. thats because you cant skip steps. at least not in every scenario.

ben saunders is the same way. most guys that train at 10th planet do this because its basics.

The thing i find the funniest is people acting like its something spectacular,he beat mj who we have seen has nothing once u put him on his back, and with barboza we have seen the same thing,to be honest outside of the 1st round it was a b grade performance against edson.

If he fought tony like that, tony would still be fresh and would be hitting him back off the bottom and looking for subs having him defensive.
