BJ Penn alluded to this in his career too, MMA fighters overtrain and don't peak at the right time. Coming into fights literally exhausted from training camp (or having to pull out because of injuries) I think fighters need to find a middle ground

The sport would certainly be better off with less training camp injuries.

No, Bisping is a talented guy who caught the champ and Diaz is just a far superior fighter than Mcgregor.

Short answer is yes, but with so many facets to MMA, it is difficult to not overtrain. Conditioning, standup, submissions, takedowns, transitions....

Still trying to discredit Diaz's victory huh?

for sure guys over train.

there is no reason a athlete has to do 10-12 week camps to peak.

your just asking to hurt yourself and lose focus mentally.

4-6 week camps tops and dont blow up by 40lbs in between fights and get way out of shape.

It proves you probably shouldn't write off your opponent before a fight like Rockhold and Conor did

Diaz got destroyed for the first 1.5 rounds of the fight and is currently the underdog in the rematch. Yep he's far superior.

nah nate is a nightmare matchup for conor and would beat him 9/10 times. Just tryingto have a discussion about a wider issue in mma, leave ur agenda at the doorstep

Destroyed?

If you can maintain your fitness levels most of the year whilst doing work in the gym as well do fighters really need a 8-12 week camp?

The problem is most of these athletes let themselves go in between fights and its a struggle to get back down to weight.

Sorry had to quote this for when they rematch... Is that you Artem?

Seriously though, you actually believe what you said?

You forgot to add alex carceres. Never seen him look that crisp.

not even close to that. conor did win round 1 but so what. they both threw around the same number of strikes and conor gased. nate is the better boxer and the better mma fighter.

Short answer is no. Less short answer is no, it doesn't prove it at all but if you were to go back and tally up a lot more evidence then you'd know if it was worth more research.

Very interesting idea for sure, my gut tells me maybe.

Bisping and Nate were coming off a base from their last fight. It takes a while for the residual effects of training to decline. They would have no doubt being doing light maintenance. So they come in on two weeks, they still have their fitness, they are fresh, they have no pressure, mentally they are far better off, and their opponent has spent three months game planning movement patterns for another fighter… This is a very big deal.

Really, the guy coming in on two weeks is at the advantage.

Yes. Go check the betting odds. Everyone understands except you noobs on shertard.com. goddamn this site has gone WAY downhill.

Why do you think steroids is so prevalent in MMA? Helps with the recovery.
