Does anyone not like Yoel’s fights?

Yoel has a pretty failing strategy. He focuses on defense by producing little to no offense. He taunts because he can't create openings and he lacks the cardio to push a pace, keep up activity wise or wrestle proper for any sustained period of time. The fact that he's so dangerous and forces opponents to commit often times leads to them being tentative too. He's obviously insanely powerful and explosive so a lot of fights have gone his way and he's found a way to be largely effective despite many shortcomings in the sense of conditioning and technical abilities. That said, yeah, I was never a huge fan of his approach. Thought he lost to Jacare too.
Yeah he kind of sucks the entertainment out of fights by doing that. He's so fuckin durable he could go on forever just like this.

I feel like entertainment wise, he’s very overrated. His fights sometimes really suck because he just does the wait n explode thing, and his opponents are always scared to engage. So they just point-fight with him.
I'd rather watch Severn v Shamrock slap fight.

Im glad a lot of people are agreeing with me. He keeps getting big fights and even some of his ufc title shots was undeserving, but people look at his physicque and keep thinking he can beat anyone so they put him in big fights.

2 wishes on my end after that garbage showing by Yoel.

1. Rumble was still alive. Wish this was true no matter what.

2. That he was challenging Nemkov. Would have been an actual fight.

Yoels style is to walk through punches and kicks and fire back with harder kicks and punches. Terrifying guy but this style catches up with problems

I would not be surprised if a major factor in his low output and risk taking, especially with such a strong wrestling pedigree, is his neck injury.
He probably knows he is one neck crank away from being in agony or paralysis for the rest of his life if he gets a major impact or awkward position in a scramble/brawl.

Most fighters are forced to retire with vertebrae deterioration or blown discs but he is just soldiering on with compromise.

I stopped watching him long ago. His weirdo fans will say the anticipation of him doing something makes his fights great, but the number of those people is dwindling

It is very exciting when he wins by sudden explosion. But that doesn't always happen, and will probably happen even less frequently going forward.

How about this? I find his highlight reel rather entertaining.

He's not an easy guy to fight. He blocks strikes really well and plays possum and looks for kill shots with bad intentions that he's folded high level fighters with late in fights in the past.

He's durable af and deadly until the last second and patient enough to play this game until his opponent makes a mistake. Izzy didn't have an easy time fighting him not that long ago. He had to sit back, use low kicks and play it safe.

Romero is an absolute animal and his fight psychology is impressive to me and his approach to fighting is effective in a weird way.

He is def overrated
But his fights are good. If you don't have pride Wanderlei expectations
At some point in his fights it's gonna go down
He is low volume but explodes with big power at some points in his fights.

Def not non stop action

But Usually damage is done

He fights like that out of necessity..all that explosive muscle comes at a cost of cardio
This. Yoel's not dumb. He knows he can't wrestle any more and knows his gas tank can't handle 5 rounds of explosions, and he knows he's made of granite. He's using his best tools that he has left at his age. When he loses he looks like a fool, but if he lands he looks like a genius. Sort of like a much more stubborn version of Anderson Silva without the same accuracy for counters.

He looks very good against someone like Costa who isn't gonna keep him at range and pick him apart from there. Otherwise, he just stands around hoping to get you with some explosive mood that might never happen
