Does anyone not like Yoel’s fights?

Yoel has a pretty failing strategy. He focuses on defense by producing little to no offense. He taunts because he can't create openings and he lacks the cardio to push a pace, keep up activity wise or wrestle proper for any sustained period of time. The fact that he's so dangerous and forces opponents to commit often times leads to them being tentative too. He's obviously insanely powerful and explosive so a lot of fights have gone his way and he's found a way to be largely effective despite many shortcomings in the sense of conditioning and technical abilities. That said, yeah, I was never a huge fan of his approach. Thought he lost to Jacare too.

Not at that time though.

Each had one recent KO as I recall.

He fucked up Luke Rockhold in a title fight
Lol it was an undeserve interim title fight because they stripped whittaker. Rockhold beat david branch before that.

still, weidman and rockhold have shown that they werent that good after that.

Well said

Yoel was one of the most entertaining fighters in MMA, but that all ended after the Costa fight.

Nemkov beat him, but it was never close to ending, even when nemkov had him on the fence, he still scares them with his power. Then he starts doing some drunken fist shit, nemkov should leg kicked him to hell while he was doing that.

I mean he had him rocked and was blasting on him but sure he was never close to ending. Find an example of Whittaker or Izzy showing that level of aggressiveness.

I know izzy never went for any finishing moves on yoel.

whittaker actually went to war and brawled with yoel.

You really never know what to expect from Yoel. Sometimes he’s great, sometimes he’s boring. 100% of the time he’s an idiot maniac.

He's a little like Machida / Izzy in the regard that he's mainly a counter fighter who will be in boring fights if the opponent doesn't engage if they don't land something big. Obviously he's really old as well so his output has fallen drastically in recent years

Watching him reminds me of the pet turtle I had as a kid, except sometimes the turtle moved his legs.

I feel like entertainment wise, he’s very overrated. His fights sometimes really suck because he just does the wait n explode thing, and his opponents are always scared to engage. So they just point-fight with him.
As a die-hard Yoel fan, I cannot disagree with you, if you remove bias.

Frankly, even some of his magic tricks where he’s rescued victory from the jaws of defeat, many of those fights were pretty dull.

Yoel’s run however, was just otherworldly.

The man is a certified top 5 best Middleweight of all-time. Has a genuine argument for higher depending on who you’re arguing with.

You have weirdos in this very thread saying he’d be the best MW & LHW in the world if it weren’t for his fight IQ

The same people jack off over his physique

I have never seen someone as made for MMA as him, too bad the he is also one of the weirdest fighters out there. He could be MW goat if he stopped getting in his way. Even at 46, sou can see that there are was for him to defeat 16 years younger opponents. But as per usual, he somehow always finds a way to fu*k up.

I alway wonder what happens if he used his used his wrestling and started MMA younger. He started MMA out of his prime, at least physically.

Totally agree, I've been saying this forever, but people dismiss me as a hater because of the lack luster fight with Izzy. Yoel is a very skilled fighter, he has a great guard and awesome wrestling pedigree, and rather than use his skills to chase a win, he fights a very low IQ fight. Come at me while I explode at you with my god given athleticism with any one of my fight ending limbs. Everyone who goes at him goes through hell and back to chase win (Costa, Whittaker, Jacare) so why put yourself in that position against a guy who doesn't chase the win? The fans give him a pass because of his highlights, but he's fought this way most of his UFC career. Early on he went for it more.

He threw a total of 10 strikes in the first two rounds tonight. Always been an incredibly frustrating fighter to watch especially if you’re rooting for him.

He was 32 in his first fight and 34 when he started fighting regularly. If he went pro as a 24 year old, he might be in GOAT talks and would be an explosive wrestler with devastating strikes. Instead we got a largely wrestling damaged Yoel.

Yeah, that is the scary part. Imagine him peaking in MMA when he is 29,30… My God.
