Does anyone have a more mismanaged sports career than Jon Jones?

Maybe Hendricks?
He had a pretty succesful career, but began making horrible investments in the retaurent and truck. Now most of his championship money is gone.
his toughest fight wasnt gsp or costa or Lawler but McDonalds

who is goat?

Tony Ferguson. he had everything to at very least be a ufc champion but because of some bad decisions he'll be remembered just as a "stupid guy" from Khabib era.

The early run was all good. Him vs the law was his own fault, no manager can help him basically to be sober, one thing leads to the next.

Last couple of years, yes, it sounds like he's been fed wolf tickets on his leverage, how big of a payday he can realistically get. Could be other reasons, could be he doesn't want to risk losing, and keeps his sponsors by saying he's in negotiations. It's not been great if you look at it solely from advisory standpoint.

Cain had so much potential but he destroyed his body with wreckless training methods. Also he prevented DC from becoming a truely dominating HW champ.

Edwin Valero
27 wins and 27 KO's.
Commits suicide after murdering his wife.
A star on the rise with an incredible darkness surrounding his life due to possible head injury. A very Dark story

G.O.A.T. meets Baldwin status. I just hope he doesn’t transition to acting.

I mean what the fuck?

Guy becomes LHW champion at 23, absolutely nuts. He went through a murderers row at that time and was finishing people the greats with relative ease. A rare talent. Yet his whole career has been anti climatic. He should have been the Michael Jordan of MMA but instead he's almost an after thought now. Never seemed to have the IT factor, constsnt trouble outside the cage, disowned by his circle or friends. Just turned out to be a real turd. He had all the makings of a sports great but seemed to do everything in his power to not make it happen. Almost like he squandered winning the lottery. Im sure his mishaps are far from over too.

That isn't mismanaged the guy is just a nut job and trouble follows him because of what he does.

Not a UFC example but Anthony Carter in the NBA has his agent cost him 3 million by forgetting to exercise an option http://static.espn.go.com/nba/columns/stein_marc/1577692.html

The agent did end up paying him back (I assume cause he would have been sued otherwise).

Dennis turned down a massive contract only to find nobody was really interested in him, 78 million mistake. Not sure how much the agent had to do with this.
https://www.si.com/nba/pacers/news/...r-less-than-6-million-with-the-boston-celtics

Also Ben Simmons for those of you following the saga is pretty mismanaged as the agent seems to be part of the plan and has already cost him millions.

Khabib

When the UFC signed him in late 2011, he had 11 fights at welterweight and had only weighed in twice at lightweight, one of which was as a teenager.

His father convinced the UFC brass that Khabib could reliably make lightweight. This proved to not be true. Khabib officially missed weight in the UFC, had several fights at catchweight, pulled out of an interim title fight at UFC 209 less than 4 hours before weigh-ins because he was going to miss weight again, fought only 8 times over the last 7 years of his career, and struggled mightily to get the scale to say 155 in his last two fights.

It is a shame, because had Khabib stayed at welterweight, he would have had the opportunity to build a truly amazing resume.

When Khabib signed to the promotion, GSP was 16-2 in the UFC, Jon Fitch was 13-1-1 in the UFC, and Nick Díaz was on an 11-fight winning streak.

In the first few years of Khabib's UFC career, Johny Hendricks emerged at a top welterweight (every media member thought he beat GSP, then he won the title and defended it after GSP retired instead of the rematch), Robbie Lawler became champ and defended the belt a few times, as did Tyron Woodley.

During this time, Carlos Condit, Rory MacDonald, Demain Maia, and Stephen Thompson proved to be top contenders.

More recently, Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington have established themselves as among the all-time greats at welterweight. Undefeated prospects Khamzat Chimaev and Yaroslav Amosov (currently outside of the UFC) could potentially join them.

By continuing to fight at welterweight as he had been doing, instead of changing course and trying to make lightweight, Khabib could have fought more often than just 8 fights in 7 years.

Had Khabib won in impressive fashion at welterweight in the UFC and kept winning, he would have had the opportunity to fight all of those top welterweights in their primes.

Saint-Pierre
Fitch
Díaz
Hendricks
Lawler
MacDonald
Condit
Woodley
Maia
Thompson
Usman
Covington
Chimaev
Amosov (if the UFC signs him when he becomes a free agent)

Instead, by trying to make lightweight, which resulted in only being able to fight sporadically, Khabib has a much thinner resume.

A big part of these "stupid" decisions was the UFC keeping him away from a title shot as long as possible. There were several points in his career were he was without a doubt the nr.1 contender and got fucked by the UFC. People also forget that when he declined he was getting old especially with that fight style. Ferguson in an organisation who gives titles shots based on acomplishments would have been champ.

And Jones doesnt have a missmanaged career. He is just a fuck up who despite that got protected by UFC through criminal activities and cheating. If anything he got the perfect results forwhat he put in. The whole HW title fight plot was a fake since the start. Jones never had any interest in going against a high level HW fighter. Regarding that he is just realistic and makes the most of it by milking his fanboys via twitter. Any competent coach will tell him the same. His wrestling is mostly gone (look at his last LHW fights) and he doesnt have the punch to impress at HW. That only leaves ellbows, knees and eye gouges as a tactic which is not enough.

You guys are so goddamn fickle. You have zero attention span. Whoever is dangled in your face at the moment is the Greatest ever
He is still undefeated
His athletic career isn't the problem. His retarded personal choices are. Minus the steroid scandal which didn't stop him, his career has been near perfectly managed.
Hearing Jan and jiri and some of you saying glover would beat Jon is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. I think Jones is a POS. But he is the UFC goat and it's not even close. Not even Anderson, DJ or khabib touch him.
<JonesDXSuckIt><JonesDXSuckIt>

It's actually a compliment for Jones.
His life is chaos, he does drugs, drinks, has family troubles, a mismanaged career (according to you guys) but still is one of, if not the, best ever.

Imagine how good Jones would be if he had a healthy private life and good "career management."

Khabib would not have similar success at WW as LW.

How can he be the MJ of MMA when he keeps popping for steroids? the guy is an steroids cheat and anyone that keeps putting him in any p4p or goat list should have his head examined.

You're failing to remember when he was the God fearing saint with the scripture on his chest. The DC interview leaked and he gave up on his image which actually helped him. At a point tho it was a hinderance

It's just crazy how you talking about this man like a tragic story of wasted potential when he's the GOAT of his sport and has never lost. He almost fucking killed prime Machida. Took a beautiful kick to the face from Shad at UFC 145 and shrugged it off so good no one even remembers it. He dominated Trtor.

Jones beat 7 UFC LHW champs, Bader and this does not include the guys who actually did well against him. Anytime someone wins 2 rounds against him their mental health collapses from the expectations of having almost beat Jon Jones. He's a legend.

People always say "he missed out on so much" but they never actually say what that means. What things has he not accomplished that he could have minus car accidents, suspensions etc? Who else was he supposed to fight that he didn't? Rumble okay, never fought Davis, maybe some people wanted to see a Bader rematch? That's 2-3 fights at LHW he didn't have he could have. Who else was there he didn't get a chance to fight outside of this new generation? Henderson fight was replaced with Trtor which is arguably an even better feat even though we didn't really appreciate that at the time.

Also it goes both ways got to remember DC rematch never happens without Jones accident(though I guess some people think it didn't happen anyway). People bitched about him not going to challenge the A athlethes in the HW division and Jones is so selfless he became a US obesity statistic to make those people happy.

What else could he have accomplished in the cage that he didn't? His career would have been anti climatic even if he were a boy scout cause he was running out of people to fight and his early tear wasn't sustainable from a serious opponents standpoint.
He could have done it all natty, for one. That stain on his legacy ain't going nowhere.
