Does anyone enjoy watching old baseball games ?

Wut?

There's more action on a football field than you can watch without pausing and rewinding! I'm a trenches and scheme nerd though so I guess I'm watching different things.

Average play lasts 5 to 10s, followwd by 15 to 30s of them figuring out what to do next. Rugby is more continuous.

I would rather listen to a chess match on the radio than watch a baseball game.

Every play is like the scrum and lineout combined, every player fulfilling an exact role designed to act, counter act and bluff. Each player is deciding on tactics to apply, the captain's are choosing strategy, the coaches are dictating an arch strategy. It's like the clutch moments of rugby every single play. A rugby match is only continued action for a couple of players, most are just jogging. It's mental to compare the two.

Bunch of bully busting out is shape dudes hitting a ball (or not) for 3 hours. Nope

Baseball is a game of strategy. It's long periods of slow play with bursts of awesomness.

AKA.... super boring.

And real strategy? You don't think every sport is a game of strategy? In football they don't have strategy? None in hockey or basketball either?

Even golf is a game of strategy. Baseball is boring as fuck.

I never said those other sports did not involve strategy.
Baseball is a chess match. It's slow, but more calculated because of it.

It's so nostalgic and fun. Watching my beloved Brewers, for example, play in the 80's and 90s. It's a great pass time on lazy days off - just having it in the background and being able to experience that time and era.

I'm a 30 year old Pirate fan, not too many classics to watch. I made sure to go to that first wild card game against the reds. I still get goosebumps when Cueto dropped the ball and Martin hit the home run the next pitch. 20 years of misery and losing was all worth that one game and one moment to me. Better than a world series win in my eyes. By the way screw Ryan Braun hahaha jk

National league yes, American league not so much. Taking out pitchers for pinch hitting in later innings are not only strategic but very tough decisions to make. Not only might you have to pull a pitcher that's dominating, you have to look at the health of your bullpen not only for the rest of that game, but how it may effect their stamina and availability the next couple days. Throw in intentional walks to set up double plays, hit and runs, shifting for certain batters, sac bunting, and stealing, it's actually a very strategic game.

It's cool to see all the old players you forgot about and also the great players like Maddux and nolan ryan. Was watching clips of nolan ryan the other day, once in a lifetime human being, the way his fastball exploded, had a power delivery yet so durable. A true outlier among outliers.

Sandy Koufax! He retired way too early. Quick question, would you consider Kershaw one of the all time greats? He lacks the no hitters, perfect games, playoff dominance. But if you look at his seasonal stats every year of his career its almost unfathomable

I don’t watch games but I like listening to them on the radio.
I’m a Twins fan and used to listen to 80+ games on the radio a year until they traded Dozier. The Pohlads can fuck right off.

he had 1 no hitter really early in his career, but no hitters are so rare, there has to be some chance involved with them. though pitchers who several or several 1 hitters show how dominant they can be.

kershaw is def one of the best, he's been so much better than his peers over a long stretch. his run of dominance is koufax-esque. the playoffs can be tough measure, you have a small sample size at first but also i think kershaw may have got burned more recently with the rampant sign stealing, its hard to say but also youre facing the best teams in the postseason so that can be a big factor, where the best hitters can turn a good performance into a bad one with literally one swing.

baseball is like hockey when it comes to the postseason where i feel like the hottest teams win, if youre in a slump you dont have the time/games to bounce back.

I like rewatching the ones where the starting pitchers either had no hitters or perfect games. My favorite ones being the Jim Abbott no hitter, and of course the Felix Hernandez perfect game. I also like watching the baseball heroes I had as a kid, Ricky Henderson, Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr, Ken Griffey Jr..ect

Yeah, i was told if i build it they will come..

Every team sport is a chess match. Baseball is slow and boring because it's a slow and boring game, not because they are developing some long secret game plan. If they could smash home runs every batter, they would.

This was the last baseball I ever watched beginning to end.

I'll never forget, as soon as me and my family seen Joe Carter was up to bat, we all let out a disappointed "Awwwww Shit!" lol
I think Joe musta been shittin' the bed those playoffs. But, he totally redeemed himself with this home run.

I love watching the Big Red machine and then watching Claudia Gadalha too. Big Red machine was amazing.

Not really, but I do enjoy MLB Network Specials like the Rickey Henderson Leadoff Legend re-run coming up soon on MLB Network.

FS1 is showing really old This Week In Baseball late at night, so I set my DVR.
Hosted by Mel Allen? They used to release those on VHS (two episodes per tape).
