I got one 2 years ago and I am so pleased with my decision. I spent a fair bit of coin on a unit made in the USA (Mak 2 Star General). For those who dont know about pellet smokers its like having an outdoor oven with a thermostat that you can use to cook anything in that you would in the oven in the kitchen with the added benefit of wood smoke flavor. I even cook pizzas on this thing!
I am currently enjoying possibly the best tri tip I have ever eaten in my life and wondering if there
are any other Sherbros using this somewhat niche outdoor cooking technology .

How much do you spend on pellets? I was looking at one a few weeks ago, but until my weber of 23 years dies...

It costs about a dollar an hour to run one of these things depending on the temperature settings. I buy pellets online unless im in a pinch and have to go to Home Depot.

After so many years with gas grills i am getting back into charcoal with a Weber Kettle Premium. One of my colleague has one and swears by it for smoking using pellets or soaked woodchips. It’s still in the box as I am away, but it’s one of my first order of business when i get back in a few days.

I guess that the challenge will be to get the temperature control right, as it would seem much easier to do with gas than charcoal.

Webbers are definitely an iconic grill for a reason, the simplicity of design and consistent cooking results are why any backyard cooking enthusiast should own one.
In regards to temperature control the pellet grill I own has an electronic thermostat that will keep the grill +/- within 5 degrees of the set point of my choosing.

When I settle down I'll get one, moving every few years makes me not want to buy top of the line stuff

I know what you mean this was a huge/stupid investment for something that I really didn't need, it but I absolutely love it and I use it all the time.

I’m in the same boat, moving every couple of years for work, but I decided long ago that I would, still get my toys. Only 3-4 years to go before I get out of the rat race!

I’ve even seen the Weber used in some ribs competitions. My goal is to master the beef brisket.

im not a big fan of the classic Weber. I would much prefer the barrel style like the simplest chargrillers so you can have proper hot and cold sides.

Been thinking about getting a Traeger for awhile now.

My old man has a traeger. Does a good job smoking but you can’t get high temps so you can’t really grill on it. The smoked turkey this past thanksgiving was awesome.
