By matching them with guys like Uriah and Corey? What Anderson and Shogun could do if both lose? Silva doesnt win a fight in years and Shogun is plaged with injuries... Maybe UFC is planning their retirement fights, idk.

Remember that Anderson is Dana's favorite fighter, by far.

corey anderson is literally the absolute worst tuf winner of all time he is terrible. dude looked so bad against Filthy. He is awful, shogun should beat the living shit out of him with relative ease even at this stage of Mauricios career.

Nope. Bisping was a winnable fight. If they wanted Silva retired they would have gave him Kennedy not Hall.

maybe they want to give them winnable fights to pump up the overly nationalistic Brazilian fans.

I don't think so.... they both are in no position to claim a top5 fight.

If they can't crack even the top 10-15, what's the point?

Shogun has looked even worse than Corey ..

I would be with Anderson. I doubt he's a big enough draw anymore to justify his contract. I mean, he's probably getting a portion of the PPV for ufc 198.

They could be putting in a much better effort to get rid of these guys if they wanted to. UFC will put any name on a card at this point.

I don't see how you can complain about Silva's matchmaking.

But I don't like the Corey Anderson fight for Shogun. Shogun will fold under Anderson's physical strength and wrestling. Also his chin must also be fading, and Anderson is powerful. Jimi Manuwa would have made more sense, but I guess he isn't available. Gian Villante would have been more suitable too. Styles make fights

Why would the UFC want to retire legendary fighters who have drawing power? I don't even comprehend your line of reasoning as to what the UFC might gain from doing so.

If anderson or shogun wins and has a good performance,it leads to a bigger money fight...if they lose it raises up their opponents.

Anderson vs Uriah is honestly decent matchup at this point....

I fear that Corey will be way too much for Shogun to handle at this point and this is a sad thought. :/

How about that Colton Smith? That was the worse TUF winner ever. Dude went 0-3 and then got walking papers.

somebody gets it.

The old lions feed the new lions, that is the way it has always been. At a certain point the big stars fade and then they match up against rising stars to see whether they stay on top or the new guys get famous by beating the big name. Nothing new, this shit was going on in boxing before any of us were born and since the dawn of MMA.

Also factor in the payday, the former top guys and big stars have sizable contracts so that means the UFC has to give them a certain level of opponent. That was the problem with Hendo, he was old as fuck but getting paid huge money so they couldn't throw him cans even though he wasn't quite as effective as a few years back, now Anderson and Shogun are in that position. Not long ago it was Chuck Liddell paving the way for Rashad and Shogun to get title shots, now the predator has become the prey and so it goes.
