they come from our self determination to treat each other the way we want to be treated. You know the same thing that's been stated as a foundation for the legal system of pretty much every culture and even religion.

Let me guess, you're one of those people that thought Jesus was the only person to ever say "treat others as you'd have them treat you" right?

Jesus put obligations on people, and did not declare rights, unless I recall incorrectly. Regardless, I'm not a Christian and don't care.

People have obligations- dharma- whereby they should have sufficient freedom to allow them to fulfill their obligations. If they refuse to attend their obligations, they no longer deserve that freedom.
