Been a while since there were magazines that I regularly picked up off the newsstand.

Back in the day though, I regularly read mags and would pick up everything from Blackbelt and Newsweek to EGM and Men's Health. I was a big time magazine reader.

I just found out that I can get a 12-month subscription to National Geographic for only $19. That seems absurdly low and NatGeo is interesting reading so I'm thinking about doing that. If I do, it will be the first time in years that I had a subscription to a print magazine.

What about you guys? Anyone here still regularly read print magazines or are you all digital now?

Only read mags when I fly. Usually NatGeo or Popular science

they send me two sports illustrated every month for free lol. Also forgot what you call one month of a magazine...

Yep, you can get mag. subscriptions for dirt cheap. Basically, if a magazine costs $5 a month, you can get a yearly subscription for $20.

I don't understand how that makes sense for the publisher. It seems like it would cost more than that to print up 12 issues and mail them.

No

I was at a ghetto gas station and I actually saw a real live current hustler magazine on the rack and I was tempted to buy it just because I couldnt think of the last time I saw one

I used to read em at cvs waiting to pick up but now I just run other errands or play with my phone

I do still real paper and cardboard books though. A real book is much more satisfying than a glowing screen in my opinion

Yeah, it seems like people have been much more willing to abandon magazines for the offerings of the Web than they have to abandon physical books for eBooks.

I still read a lot of books and have never once purchased an eBook. I don't have an eReader or intend to buy one any time soon.

They are SOOO much better and you pay like 1/2 the price of a printed book usually.

I get a couple of aquarium magazines still, Coral Magazine and Amazonas. They're printed on a really high quality paper that makes the photos look amazing. I've never seen a picture online that even comes close to the quality.

My Dad occasionally buys National Geographic still when he travels for work (which is pretty frequent). When I go to visit my folks he’ll usually leave a couple on their coffee table for me to look at whenever I’m in town visiting them.

National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler are still worthwhile.

i also get a zoo related magazine from being a annual pass holder at the zoo, which is a good little read on the crapper.

and Westways magazine because of triple A, which i like for the calendar of festivals and cooks-offs and all sort of nice day trip events.

yes, I subscribe to the print edition of Jacobin even though it costs a fortune because it is utterly gorgeous and funds causes that benefit mankind.

lighter thinner and backlit while still being easy on the eyes.

I can get down with the backlit part but that's not enough for me to abandon the joy of holding a physical book, turning the pages, smelling the paper, etc. That's not to mention the centuries of tradition.

I think that if eBooks are ever going to appeal to me then it's because publishers take greater steps to add interactive content and enhance the publication beyong what you can get from a physical book.

Well if it helps I currently reading a Chinese trilogy called the 3 body problem and it has footnotes you can click. Also you quickly forget about the turning the pages and smell.
