Do you miss video rental places?

I have access to every movie ever made. Right now. At any time. Free or Legal.

Nope.

If you live in Los Angeles there are still a few left. Videotheque in South Pasadena and Cinefile Video in Santa Monica.

I miss the girls that used to work at the video rental places

Yes and No.They were the shit when they were around, and when they went out of style it was cool to find stuff there you werent gonna be able to just get at best buy.

But the process of renting something, and then having to bring it back, when i would rather just own it? Not appealing anymore. I think some people just miss the ritual of it. But its time has gone.

I do actually!
It's not really about the movies either.
It's more about how social the environment is.

You can ask people in person if they've seen that movie before.
Or you can give great recommendations for other similar movies.
It's a great conversation starter and an absolute gnarly way to meet babes!

They need an adult selection for the RedBox machines...

They need one for Netflix DVD rental service.

Strange thing is most of the Adult DVD stores in my area are still open.

As far as the video rental stores go I do miss them. I like to see them make a come back.
This one thing I miss about the early 2000s when there still good things on cable, you could
rent video or check out what's online. I miss those days.

The adult stores supplement their income by selling dildos and weird shit in store or online. They probably also traffic in real fetish type stuff that you can't buy legally

it was different but yeah, it sure made it more of an experience. Picking the film, more anticipation, the whole movie night atmosphere with preparing popcorn or whatever. By the time 20th century fox rolled on the tv after hitting play you were all snug and immersed. And I enjoyed movies that today wouldnt even watch due to lower score.
Today I check 20 movies and scored, pick three just in case, usually skip the credits, If I find certain parts boring just skim through etc... The whole experience has become less...
Yeah, me too. The hunt and the anticipation added to it. Just getting it and nit caring, you don't get into the movie.
Also because of cell phones I don't pay attention, or straight up stop movies all the time now

Blockbuster > Pirate Bay

HMV > Spotify

Discarded Porn Mag in the bushes > PornHub

Funny enough my parents only just moved out of the neighborhood that I grew up in as a kid, and the video store that I used to go to.

The place is nice and popular. REntals are cheap as well and the selection is very good.

edit: apparently it closed briefly and is reopening (31 yrs of operation).

This pretty much nailed it. I had a friend in HS that worked at a video store (VHS, and BETA!!) and he would bring home 5 or 6 videos that weren't rented on a friday night. Part of the ritual was getting together with friends to watch absolutely terrible movies and cracking jokes the whole way through. Do any kids get together to watch a streamed movie in today's world?

Random comment. We were complete morons as kids and couldn't watch Schindler's List without crack a joke (and a few of us had relatives who would have been killed by the Germans). We didn't know anything about The Breakfast Club when it came out on video. My buddy popped it in the VCR and I think it is the only movie we watched that no one said a word during the time that we watched it.

Yeah... because it was so fun to get the video store late and all the new movies be gone...

Or being charged for another rental period of a movie was returned 10 minutes late.

I absolutely do. It was exciting to go there and then see all the new movies stacked up in one side. There was just something exciting about the whole process.

Definitely. Had a small independent movie rental store walking distance from my house. Best part was eating the wild blackberries that grew along the road and the candy box they had there....put 50 cents in the slot and take a candy bar or m&m from the box

One of the last videostores i used to go to had a very cute clerk who always made great recommendations on movies. That’s it, no more to that story. The end.

Yes, but it's probably nostalgia speaking. Things are always better in our memories.

Logically speaking, If they were all that great they wouldn't be a thing of the past now.

Bingo. It's just nostalgia. They really don't make much sense today and haven't for many years. It's more of an attempt to bring back past memories but you can't replicate them for something that isn't relevant today.
