Television Do you like Sherlock Holmes?

I liked the BBC Sherlock Holmes before both actors got popular with American movies. Speaking of BBC stuff. Idris Alba has a new Luther movie. I liked the Luther show. It was before he got big in the movie world.

Wouldn't bother with the film unless you're really at a loose end .

Damn I was hoping it would be good. I like Idris but he has been in some questionable movies. I saw this one with some rampaging lion. It wasn't good TBH.

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective who stars in 4 novels and 56 short stories written by British author Arthur Conan Doyle from 1887 to 1927.

Though not the first fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes is arguably the best known. By the 1990s, there were already over 25,000 stage adaptations, films, television productions and publications featuring the detective, and Guinness World Records lists him as the most portrayed human literary character in film and television history.

The big 2 English-language Sherlock Holmes TV series are Sherlock Holmes, made by Granada from 1984 to 1994:

and Sherlock (BBC1, 2010-2017)

which was set in the present day.

There was also a very good adaptation made in the USSR from 1979 - 1986 for any Russian speakers.

Sherlock Holmes is one of my favourite franchises and I have been a fan since my youth. I have read some of the books, listened to some of the audiobooks and seen some of the TV serieses and films. Granada 1984-1994 is the best screen portrayal imo.

There was an American series called Elementary, which ran from 2012-2019, was set in contemporary New York City and featured Lucy Liu as Dr. Watson. I would stay away from that one. There have also been 2 recent films, Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) which I didn't like but were fairly successful. They are not based directly on Doyle's books and the material has been debased for Hollywood.

Any other Sherlock Holmes fans here? I am going to see a Sherlock Holmes play this summer.

Elementary was a good series starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu.

Did elementary get cancelled? I remember watching it a few seasons deep then I just stopped.

They wrapped it up after six seasons I think, not sure if it was cancelled as such but they ended it with a proper send off

It was fun, plus I'd lick Lucy Lui's bum hole

Elementary ran for 7 seasons. I heard it was cancelled because the contracts were up for both Miller and Liu. They wanted more money as did the writers. The ratings weren't really great but it was on Thursday night then moved to Sunday so it was competing with football for much of the year. Each episode was somewhat linked to the previous ones so viewers had to keep up with the story line.

I enjoyed the Robert Downey Jr. movies. I tried watching the Benedict Cumberbatch show and didn’t like it much.

I feel like I should go back and finish it. It wasn't a bad series.

I did buy both RDJ movies. Didn't know Holmes was a skilled NHB fighter.

By the time I knew of the Benedict SH show, it was ending.
