Social Do you have a thousand dollar car payment?

I used to finance everything when you could get 0-1%. Now rates are higher, I’ve been paying cash. I’d have a $2000 a month payment if they had 0% financing again. But they don’t.

Good for you. I worked construction for a couple of years while studying. Everyone was piss-poor and at least on the brink to alcoholism.
Maybe it's different in the US but i never met a brick layer that could've afforded 1300 bucks a month for car rates.
If you aren't a contractor with your own firm you'll never be able to afford that here.

You will get 1300-1600 in germany working as a construction helper in montage/ demontage and roughly 2k as a brick layer after taxes.

And if you are self employed carpenter for instance you'll be crushed by minimum wage firms who offer the same work in shitty manner for a third of your price.
TBF, I’m now a project manager for a pretty big company. I run several projects at a time. I get most of our bigger projects, so it’s millions of dollars of work at each jobsite. I get a good salary and bonuses etc.
if I wasn’t doing this, I’d be self employed probably making even more lol. But, I’m saving myself from the wear and tear on the body lol

I used to think my cousin was half a retard for his 800 dollar car note on a G35 Infiniti back in the day. On top of the car note you have to insure if for a crazy amount of money if the car is worth that much. The price of a mortgage for something that is constantly losing its value something that is just for transportation from A to B.

0 car payment. actually just paid it off at the end of december. it was like 450 bucks. im 44, i dont drive much, so i think this will probably be my last car before I move outta the country. Its a 2019 2 door manual murdered out wrangler. I love it.

Gasconading about your $1000 payments on the Bentley is such a power move.

I heard the average American car payment was 700 and something. Then there's insurance and maintenance easily adding half that.

People do it, I think they're dumb, same for housepayments. Some asshole tells you what to want and people just say, "ya, that's what I want".

Mines about 530 but I pay 1000 a month towards it, that's for my civic si, my truck has been paid of for a couple years.
could’ve just said gay honestly

anyway i always laugh at people saying the middle class can’t get ahead but they have two car payments. trading in their car to get rid of negative equity. as a traveler i was clearing roughly 5000 a week and driving an 08 accord in 2020. every person i worked with was making 1/8 of that but with a new car, student loans, door dashed starbucks and so on.

Now I'm curious. Track? What do you race? And what kind of truck and did they warranty?
Man sorry that happened

We were going to Road Atlanta. We were racing an E30 BMW. It was a 22' Tundra, the engine was recalled and replaced as part of the recall. I still lost ~3k having to rent an HD pickup to get to the track, and then a Penske moving van to tow my trailer home. The entire ordeal was a nightmare.

If the engine failure happened near my house when not towing, it would have been a minor inconvenience.......but this was BRUTAL!

I had a Toyota when I was a kid. I beat it mercilessly. It got recalled and they replaced both heads all the cams and timing belt for free. I had to pay for 1 part so I didn't complain. Toyota turned around my opinion on them with good service and a tough truck.

That sounds like it was a bad time, hobbies can be a nightmare. I went through a similar time with a friend at Carlisle, friend's truck broke at the track then the Penske truck died on the penny pike on the way home.

My biggest payment was for my Tacoma. 200$ a month. I paid 400$ a month and killed that bill quick. I cant do debt, shit fucks with me lol. I only do Toyota lol been too good to me.

2013 accord LX that I paid off a couple years ago. Just hit 100k miles on it. Dont see a reason why I won't be hitting 250k or 300k on it. Its ridiculously dependable.

My car payments were like $230 a month but I paid off my car in 2017. I couldn’t imagine paying more than like $500-600 a month for vehicle payments.

Yeah... But it's self drive...

A great villain

On topic: nope. And I have some nice shit too. But I will use a healthy down payment or trade in to make sure my payments aren’t terrible.

No, when my 2009 Chevy Colorado dieded 2yrs ago,
I bought a 2017 Chevy Trax for 6k

I always paid cash for my cars and always will.

Agreed. This might seem strange, but at age 57, I've still never had a single car payment. Paid cash for my first car in 1985 when I was 16, a 1968 Plymouth Fury. Fucking barge. Kept that fucker for 10 years. At which point I was in the corporate world with company cars. It was not until the mid 2000's before I had to buy a car again, and I paid cash for every one.

It is NOT a good idea to finance depreciating assets that don't produce revenue.

if you have a 1K car payment, I'm guessing your car has got to be 70K, and it also feels wrong to drop 70K on a car, even if you can afford it.

Only ever financed 1 car (in '07). An '03 Chrysler Intrepid, all black and fully loaded. Had the 3.5. No clue why, but hey only wanted $4k on it. I didn't even really need it, but the monthly payments were only like $70 a month, and i knew my daughter's car would be dying soon anyways.

She never got the car. I kept it, it was like driving my couch on the highway, and that 3.5lt was a solid V6. I got T-boned in it less than 2 years later, instant write-off, and I profited off the car when the insurance company settled. One of the very few vehicles I've owned that I really miss. Serious highway car, the limited kicker in at 174km/h iirc and it was still quiet even with the sunroof open. Owned an LHS and a 300M too. My buddy owned a Concorde, lol. They were never going to win any beauty contests, but on a drive from the East Coast to Ontario they were dream cars.

If the S&P500 has an average rate of return of ~10%, why would you pay cash for a car if you can finance it for somewhere between 0 - 4%?
If you buy a used car you aren't getting close to touching 4 percent. In fact, even with good credit, two years ago you're looking at 8 or 9.
