Do win-loss records matter in MMA?

it matters, but also the "last 10" and "promotion record" matters more.

For example, look at Matt Brown. His record is 20-13. Not THAT great. But look at his "last 10" Record. it's 8-2 with a 7 fight win streak and his "promotion record" stands at 13-7. Those unofficial records are more important that his full record.

Rousey doesn't count, given the infancy of WMMA.
This +5. Ronda is no different than Royce, Coleman, or Chuck. She did one thing better than everyone else and exploited it her entire career.

McMann fight was stopped early and Bethe at best is a brawler. Brawlers get knocked out. She judo'ed everyone else.

The only time I care about records is when they're involved in GOAT discussions and when someone has a crappy streak but gets a title shot.

It definitely matters, but it's not the only thing that matters. I would say best win/worst loss and styles of said fights matter more than just the numbers. Mark Hunt is the only guy for whom you can completely disregard the record, because we knew he was dangerous and was just out shape and not training at all for a few years.
