Quite simply since these sub human living conditions put on people by paying them pennies, and also takes jobs from the west why not put a stop to it.

Western nations could put tariffs and penalties on companies buying and selling merch from these places unless they adapted to certain standards

EDIT: min wage specific to living standards of each county
Could be enforced because their main customers are the developed world. So countries with a good wage scale would benefit from free trade, whereas places that are found with sweat shops etc. are penalized.

Well, no, you can't institute a flat one, obviously. Too many countries at too diverse of development stages.

However, what you could do is to institute import rules that say:
1) If you can't document where this was made under what worker laws, it can't be imported here.
2) Set certain minimum standards that very gradually improve worker conditions in Third World sweatshops.
3) Get other developed nations to sign on or do something similar.
