Considering ive seen videos of police in USA shooting people because they dont do exactly what they say ( ie officer says DONT MOVE, guy moves, gets shot in chest even though hes surrounded by cops, stuff like that ) , im thinking they must not have batons?

Here in Croatia when we think of police brutality we think of batons. Police officers here are not allowed to use their guns at all unless someone shoots at them first ( yes, you read it right :D ), but since basically noone owns a gun here, batons are more than enough for police to enforce their will.

Now i do understand when it comes to armed robbers and stuff like that, police must use their guns, but in most cases ive seen on internet i was completely stunned by how easy US police officers grab their guns and just point it at folks. It just baffles me really, like a regular street bobby pulling out a gun like hes some James Bond secret agent or something wtf...

If stuff like this happened in a country where police officers are allowed to use guns, there would be 50 people shot dead every month:

and still resulted in this:

Most here have gone to theses, collapsible batons. Which are really not much use according to those I have talked to. A lot also have tazers which are useful but not everyone has one and in some places the US is so restricted that the cops don't bother with using them.

However these are of little use if the person presents a deadly threat.

I wonder if the decreasing ability of cops to fight (i.e. end confrontations without the use of firearms) is partially to blame for the recent spate of killings.

There was a thread here where some carry nunchakus.

I would say more along the lines of the way they are restricted if they do go hands on results in more use of things like tazers but I don't see where this would effect a deadly force situation. I don't see cops going hands on in a deadly force situation. The only time fighting ability comes into play is if the cop is attacked by an unarmed person. If that is the case then the cop has to worry about being overcome and his weapon taken and used against him, which has happen more then you think. This is where the cop end up using deadly force (justified) against and "unarmed" man. You also have to look at "the great bodily harm" part of the justified use of deadly force. In other words you don't have to fear that the person beating you is going to kill you all you need to believe is the person is intent on causing you great bodily harm.

You also have the disability and injury that cops have that go hands on a lot.

This is all things I have talked about with some of my students that are cops.

The police officers on this site may give a better perspective on some of this.

Well, the population of Croatia is about 4 million.

We have over five million convicted felons in the U.S.

Do U.S. police use batons? We have over 50 states with different police forces and protocols in every city in those states. Some do and some don't. There are over 300 million guns in this country as well, many of them easily concealable.

In the past ten years over 1600 police officers have been shot.

We also have a lot of large men that like to use PCP and other dangerous drugs. Batons don't work on them.

Yeah i wasnt comparing Croatia to USA those are 2 veeeery veeeery different countries with veeery different people and cultures...

Im just sayin to me it is un imaginable to see a regular street police officer pull a gun let alone shoot someone, so i was wondering about batons, couse they seem to work wonders here, specially considering cops outnumber everyone in a matter of minutes , pull out those batons, shit can get ugly, noone gets shot and dies though...

Shiiiiit. Ever been to Central America? Police & military don't much give a single fuck. They think its funny to point guns at each other.

And then there's Europe. I remember one time in Naples I saw a traffic cop pull his Beretta M1934 out and stick it in a guys face for failing to follow the cop's directions.

Well, first the cop, who was standing directly in front of the guy's car, made a big fucking deal of slowly taking off his white gloves AND THEN he pulled out his gat, smacked the butt of it on the hood a few times while yelling at the driver, and then he went completely quiet and just stood there with the gun pointed at the driver's face.

I'm stuck in the car right next to this debacle thinking; is he going to really shoot this guy? The driver finally dropped his 'tude, smiled and laughed at the cop and ultimately stopped doing whatever it was that pissing off the cop.

but in most cases ive seen on internet
And there you have it.

I'll take US Law Enforcement over any other police force in existence today. This whole idea that they're all racist and become police in order to do violence on minorities is pure internet fantasy.

Hell ya, chucks, would fuck you up. Seeing that Diaz video got me into chucking, and I'd take chucks over a baton any day

Guys with the chucks have not done very well at the dog brothers gatherings of the pack. I worked with them for a good while as they were so popular at the time (due to Lee) but after sparing with them found while they look great a skilled stick fighter could and would fuck up your day.

Personally I like a JO staff as is can be carried in most all places (doesn't look like a weapon) and can be used and many distances by moving your hands around on the weapon.

I wonder if czech citizens complain about use of force?
Currently pd in the states are expected to bring in people resisting arrest using hugs and kisses.

Many departments have gotten away from them since if you hit in the wrong spot due to circumstances its deadly force pretty much

Mark Furman on the OJ documentary said the Rodney King beating would have been prevented if police can use chokeholds.

I agree it's not the best option against armed and skilled attackers, but for the average guy a cop is using it on, it should be more then effective. I'd take chucks over a knife for what it's worth

For me I would take the knife but that's just me.

What we have found with chucks is when you get into the locks and restraints you can use they do have some real worth especially in the pain compliance.
