Do people think that Cormier took a $500k pay cut to fight on 2 days notice?

That makes no sense at all. I'm guessing he made substantially more than he would've if Jones didn't get pulled.

It's all about that PPV cut.. as long as they didn't cut that it's all good screw the 500k.

"No longer Main Event, no longer defending the belt, 3 rounds fight, had to give extra to Silva to make it happen, it's this pay cut or nothing, but you still get your PPV share" - I can picture Dana talking this to him.

well according to everything we heard, including from DC, you are wrong.

Any money is better than no money. A 3 round fight vs a past prime MW is going to pay less than a 5 round fight with arguably the best LHW in the world. Ya goof.

Also, is he ever going to make $1 million straight up again? Possibly, but he is almost 40.

Why turn down 500k to fight someone on 1 day's notice, with your title not on the line?

It's a bit of a no-brainer.

He easily could've pulled out and fought in the next few months. They were trying to save a fight on the card. Cormier had the negotiating leverage

he was fighting a 50 yr old who just got out of gall bladder surgery and hadnt trained at all in months and is a middle weight who walks around at 195lbs and a guy who was outwrestled by travis lutter
it was pretty close to a sure thing

Well, according to the official payouts, he did, so looks like you're wrong.

I'm wondering when we will have our money back for that eye-stinging, unwatchable fight...

He explained that on the MMA hour, he took a small cut per the structure of his contract but he was payed well enough.

Yet he still asked if the fight could be made at 210lbs.

So Lesnar only made 2.5 million? Thanks for clearing this up
The only thing we know, and the only thing I'm willing to give the UFC any credit for, is disclosed payouts plus PPV points, and we don't know the exact details of the latter.

Obviously they both made more than their disclosed payouts, because I'm sure they both got PPV points. But we know Cormier's purse was $500k less than it would have been, and I'm willing to bet Jones being removed also lowered the buy rate.

The UFC doesn't get credit for secret, backroom checks. That doesn't seem that controversial to me.

Take almost no damage, better than no fight at all. Would make sense if true. Jones vs. Cormier is the best fight the UFC can put on. Cormier vs. Anderson age 50 was fucking horrible.
