Do our phones listen to us when we are not even using them?

I basically just assume that nothing is private. I know Facebook and google steal and sell all our info and we allow it. But has it reached the point where your phone can be sitting on the dresser dormant and still listen to your conversations for key words?

Because if not, I’ve got some serious coincidences with YouTube recommendations.

I just asked Siri. She said

"I'm listening...."

Listening in on you TS ? I have no clue, listening in on me ? I seriously doubt it.

Well if you can ask them to turn on they have to be listening to make sure you're not asking them to turn them on

I would say yes. The "coincidences" are not even subtle any more.

Your phone is always listening. It has to be if it has any sort of functionality that allows it to respond to voice commands without physically prompting it to do so.

I've seen too many weird "coincidences" to believe that certain apps aren't using random conversations to suggest ads.

I just assume they're listening.

Always remember to leave your phone at home when you are out committing felonies.

This is the lesson learned from Aaron Hernandez.

Nobody thinks that someone is actively listening to your conversations. However, it is possible these devices are, in the event of certain keywords being spoken by you, adjusting the search algorithm used by the platforms that use data like that to sell you shit.

Of course they do and you allowed it. Most apps like Facebook ask you for permission to use the microphone and you allow it.

I've definitely noticed that when I'm talking about something I'll later see it recommended, even if I haven't typed it into my phone.

They are absolutely listening, but it's usually for targeted advertisements. If you're using apps that don't cost money then you are the goods being sold. Its basic business.

Only really used it for the radio, when I walk my dog, i met someone last week I hadn't seen in a while, and later on that week she sent me a text message, I replied and it was the first message i'd sent this year, as for voice calls, its probably been 6 months since I made a call

They probably do! It would not surprise at all if companies and governments are slowing spying on us now. Supposedly the NSA uses such technology now against us to collect massive data on everyone.

Facebook is not what is use to be 10-12 years ago connecting with "old friends". Facebook is the umbrella corporation now!

I know it's hearing me, but I don't think it's listening.
