Do almost all of the Dagestani fighters have the same style?

There are going to be a lot more Dagestanis at the top level of boxing in the next few years. There were 3 or 4 who made it to the semi-finals in the last Olympics.

Love the guy as a Boxer - and nothing but respect for Dagestanis culture on combat training. They;'re like modern day Sparta meets Klingon

Side comment but it is truly bizarre how over-represented Dagestan is in the UFC. I can't think of any other example where one specific smaller region from a country is crushing it in the UFC. Like, you might get a lot of fighters from Rio in Brazil, but Rio is the 2nd biggest city in Brazil, whereas Dagestan is the 10th biggest 'federal subject' (by population) in Russia. And I'd be hard pressed to think of one state from the USA that is dominating in the UFC.

Most of them come from combat sambo, which is much like MMA itself and thus styles can vary. Guys like Khabib and Islam were trained by Khabib's father, a Master of Sport in wrestling, which naturally lead to more emphasis on wrestling.

Alaverdi Ramazanov is a pretty good kickboxer in One FC

I'd say California and Florida are doing well just because how many elite gyms are in the area.

They use Sambo which seems to favor grappling over fighting so it tends to look the same.

No a few of them are strikers primarily but most of them have well above average wrestling and ground control as well.

A lot of Dagestanis seem to have that wonder boy karate striking style it seems. Zabit, Usman, said, umar, etc

No, there are loads who have a more sanda based style. I would say that the vast majority are either the Khabib style of grappling or the spinny shit style though.

Don't know if you watch Mixed Molly Whopperys documentaries, but he has a few on the 2 camps of that country sir.

Worth the watch.

I am sure there are shitty Dagastani fighters. We just see the good ones.

All of Gangnam has the same style, so probably.

Wrestling has been the best base for MMA for years upon years now. They use the best base the most effectively.

Blame everyone else for not stoping their chain wrestling

I agree it speaks more to the current state of MMA. You need to be a westler or have elite takedown defense (which in turn makes you into a good wrestler anyway).

I would say your style doesn't matter as long as you win.

Now UFC is biased toward strikers i guess, since they put a better show for the public.

If you know anything about Dagestan, you know that they have more martial arts schools of all types there than almost anywhere else. And a very high % of boys of young age are going to be enrolled in these schools, as that is the tradition. In Caucasus, physical power and ability to stand for yourself is very important values for a man, so enrollment in martial arts for a boy is very common. And yes, wrestling is very popular, however so is kung fu, karate, sambo, muai thai, kickboxing etc. It's a misconception that all Dagestani's are wrestlers. MMA fighters from that region have a fist-hand, high-level source to practice and improve wrestling, but their first discipline won't necessarily be wrestling. Even in Khabib's camp, there are guys who developed striking first, before diving into mma/sambo.

Nassourdine "Russian Sniper" Imavov is a striker. He was born in Dagestan but has been living in France since like age 10.
