"Stolen Valor" is the term used whenever someone who has not served in the military claims that they have. This includes going around wearing a military uniform or some that can be confused with a military uniform. This is done so they can receive praise and/or some sort of benefit from people who think they are/were in the military. It's also illegal.

My question to you War Room nuts is "do it bother you"? What if the person is only doing it for praise and not for any monetary benefit? Would you call the person out? Would you go further than just calling it out?

Like some asshole who says he fucked my main squeeze, Veronica Vaughn. To the death, georges!!!

Where is mike armyquitte when you need him?

If they are actually using it for legal/monetary benefits i wouldn't be opposed to sending them to Cuba in a cultural exchange program.

If they are just talking tough that just makes them a loser and they should be pitied, and maybe given a swirlie or something.

I've only seen one guy I'm my life, do that. And he was so obviously fraudelent(wore a Marines uniform with a Navy cap), I couldn't help but feel embarrassed for him. He seemed pretty lonely tbh. But yeah, f*ck him; if some Marine kicks his ass for posing, I wouldn't lose any sleep.

Why would it not bother you? I've never even served and I don't like it. I know quite a few posters on here have served, so I don't expect many comments to be very forgiving in this thread.

It bothers me because I have served. People who haven't do not understand what that deception means.

I've talked about this with my best friend who is a marine. If someone really fakes being in the military, I just assume they are a loser. I wouldn't go out of my way to humiliate them or even worse, attack them. People do that shit though and all of these fucking yes men praise it.

Who cares?

Not usually, depending on the circumstance. People lie about all sorts of things. If they're doing it to sound cool, who cares, it's just another lie. But if it has consequences like receiving tax money, or somebody else's access or prize, then it's more like lying about being a doctor or lawyer and trying to practice, so obviously that's a problem. A lot of these "stolen valor" confrontations are awkward for everybody involved and are made into a much bigger deal than they really are.

I don't like it and have called people out for being full of shit when they're at the bar telling "war stories"

Because people pretend they are something they arent all the time?

I actually feel pretty sorry for these kind of guys

I've seen a bunch of videos were these guys get confronted and the people calling them out almost always end up looking worse.

it depends....if its to get pussy, then fair enough. If you are doing fraud, then you need to be put in your place. I mean is it any different telling a girl you served than telling her you saved someones life or lie about how much money you earn?

There used to be a guy who worked at a dive shop in North Miami claimed to be an ex Seal , one day a couple of Seals show up and had a little talk with him , turned out he was lying, the guy left town the next day lol

Not sure what they said to him but he left in a hurry

I'd say its just north of faking having cancer.

But it's enough for me to stop placing any value in your life.

I don't condone lying but I couldn't care less if someone claimed they served their corporate overlords by fighting third world countries. If someone told me he used to drive a garbage truck and pick up trash even though he never did it, I wouldn't care...

It's not a big deal at all. People dress as cops and firemen every year for Halloween and nobody cares about that. Veterans need to get over it.
