2nd pic is unlikey to be Melanesian, because the woman looks South Asian.DNA shows Melanesian (of which I am 6%) carry a trace of a fourth, unknown, human species. We're all Homo Sapiens, but most of us carry about 3% or less of Neanderthal or Denisovan blood due to mixing thousands of years ago. Now, the Melanesian genetic study showed they were also 97% Homo Sapien, but their remaining 3% (or less) was from a fourth, unknown, human yet to be discovered. Cool stuff !

it is genetics. Although sun and salt can turn some brown hair blond as well. Some islanders full on have blonde hair with a different origin that that of crackers.Its not genetics. Sun and salt damaged.

The articles do not make it sound like it (evidence for a 3rd species of homo sapien ) is a foregone conclusion. There seems to be some hedging or at the very least the writers are not claiming the evidence as definite. But the evidence , at this point in time, points to a 3rd species.
