Their very first fight as what 2010 or 2011? 5-6 years ago....and the improvements between them are not even similar. DJ doesn't even look remotely the same, his takedowns are crisper, his striking is 1000x smoother, everything he does is as slick as ice. Cruz on the other hand still looks like the same guy that fought MM that night. Obviously Cruz has gotten better with more experience, but in reality he hasn't made leaps and bounds in skill since that fight.

And that fight was not one sided, Cruz may have obviously won it...but DJ was landing good shots, catching him with the high kick, and took him down once or twice. And per MM's and his coaches words, he was training 3x a week while working construction. Now that MM has been able to make MMA his number 1 priority...he's looked unstoppable.

I think the improvements DJ made has far surpassed the improvements Cruz made, no one can really argue this. I think the new DJ with all his new found skill, veteran experience, and the champion mentality beats Cruz who doesn't look like he's added a significant amount of new skills in his arsenal.

I really do see DJ doing better then the first time..
- He's improved over 5 years at a rate faster then almost everyone on the roster.
- He has a stellar track record with rematches.

In fact if he didn't do better I'd be shocked.

I don't like watching either but after Cruz's Cruise performance, MM takes it. He'll cut off the predetermined dance moves and land often.

Maybe. DJ was beating him in the standup department. The only question is wrestling. Can DJ deal with the bigger wrestler in Cruz.

I think DJ will take a razor close decision.

It's possible. I still think it would be really close. I do think MM has improved more than Cruz since their first fight, but I'm still not certain he wouldn't get out grappled by the larger man. It's a rematch I'd definitely like to see.

What the fuck? Hang on, I need to catch my breath:

TS is high...

believe DJ is the better fighter but the size advantage might be too much for him, i mean Cruz is on the big size of 135lbs

DJ is game but it's hard to negate that size difference.

Taking Cruz all day if this fight happens in the next year

I'm with you.

If he can avoid getting taken down repeatedly like last time, he could conceivably outpoint Cruz on the feet. He was doing pretty good last time in the striking exchanges with Dom.

He certainly has the speed and skillset to compete with Cruz.

I think of it as, can DJ defend 15% more takedowns then the first time? Can he deal with Cruz's size and strength 15% better? I feel like if he can the fight becomes very competitive.

Him taking him down has more to do with the fact that DJ was the inferior wrestler. Remember that MM took him down a few times as well
Cruz used sheer power on a few of those takedowns though. I feel like without the size difference Cruz's wrestling wouldn't have been so dominant.

>Implying Cruz hasn't gotten better

Lol worst thread of the day. Dom has the best Fight IQ in MMA, he's consistently studied the game even from the sidelines.

Not to mention MM wasn't even remotely competitive in the first fight.
