Their very first fight as what 2010 or 2011? 5-6 years ago....and the improvements between them are not even similar. DJ doesn't even look remotely the same, his takedowns are crisper, his striking is 1000x smoother, everything he does is as slick as ice. Cruz on the other hand still looks like the same guy that fought MM that night. Obviously Cruz has gotten better with more experience, but in reality he hasn't made leaps and bounds in skill since that fight.
And that fight was not one sided, Cruz may have obviously won it...but DJ was landing good shots, catching him with the high kick, and took him down once or twice. And per MM's and his coaches words, he was training 3x a week while working construction. Now that MM has been able to make MMA his number 1 priority...he's looked unstoppable.
I think the improvements DJ made has far surpassed the improvements Cruz made, no one can really argue this. I think the new DJ with all his new found skill, veteran experience, and the champion mentality beats Cruz who doesn't look like he's added a significant amount of new skills in his arsenal.
