Dive Bomber Push Ups

As you can see, Kimura would get his students to do dive bomber push ups. I'm just wondering what additional benefit these would have to a Judoka.

At every club I've been at we did regular push ups. Perhaps we are missing out on something.
 
They work the shoulders a lot, in judo we would go forward and backward to prevent momentum.
It's just another body weight exercise that can add to strength; a useful tool in a box of many.

I remember a wrestling tournament once at a higher level than i wrestled; the korean team that showed up, during the open workout where all the teams were practicing, all they did was an hour straight of dive bombers. And no, they weren't any more fatigued the next day for any wondering, they did quite well.
 
An hour of dive bomber pushups??? damn...F that.
 
Dude their mental discipline was ridiculous. They took the odd break here and there for a minute but yeah it was basically an hour of those.I hated doing 20 minutes of normal push ups as a punishment in wrestling, enough.
 
I love that mini-doc. Kimura was awesome.
