First MOANA Trailer Reveals Disney’s Sea-Set Animated Adventure

Moana-Disney-061216-Dragonlord.jpg

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s animated adventure film Moana has just been released and it promises a beautifully animated, musical, magical journey. We don’t see too much from Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) but the fact that she’s not too impressed by the demi-god Maui (Dwayne Johnson) tells us quite a bit.

Johnson’s animated version of himself is spot-on, right down to the raised eye-brow and pec pops. Moana looks like a brightly colored, fun-filled ride based on rarely explored source material, making it sure to be a worthy addition to Disney’s catalog.

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the duo behind The Little Mermaidand Aladdin, the film revolves around Moana, a spirited teenaged girl named who sets sail to prove herself a master sailor and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest, with Maui in tow. Featuring original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and the voice talent of Alan Tudyk, Moana opens in theaters on November 23th.

International Trailer for MOANA Introduces Baby Moana to the Water

The new International Trailer for Disney's Moana has arrived, with familiar footage for fans who attended the Disney D23 Expo last year. The trailer shows a baby Moana who meets the Water for the first time. At the expo, Director Ron Clements explained the importance of this meeting.

"There is one other very important character we want to mention in this movie, the Pacific Ocean," Clements said. When they visited the South Pacific for research, they saw that the people there spoke of the ocean like "a person or a friend." They make the conversation between Moana and the Ocean a two-way process in the film, as demonstrated in the clip above, with the water acting playful with the little girl.

Looking forward to seeing this. Probably end up being one of the best animated films of the year.

2016 looks to be a banner year for studio animated movies. Zootopia and Finding Dory were great. We still have Kubo and the Two Strings and Moana.

Stoked for this! I still have to see Finding Dory though, I heard it was great.

Oh look, another spirited-teenage girl and a fat guy because diabetes is a blessing, you fat-shaming bigots.

Voice Cast Announced and New Character Details for Disney's MOANA

moana0004.jpg

Walt Disney Animation Studios' Moana, which opens in theaters nationwide on Nov. 23, 2016, features a dynamic roster of characters brought to life by a talented group of actors. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who were behind The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, Moana showcases the life-changing journey of a tenacious 16-year-old who teams up with the mighty demigod Maui to fulfill an ancient quest.

The newly-revealed Moana characters and voice talent join the already-announced duo that includes newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho, who lends her voice to the title character, Moana, a teenager who dreams of becoming a master wayfinder, and Dwayne Johnson, who voices Maui—half god, half mortal, all awesome.

Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords) provides the voice of Tamatoa, a self-absorbed, 50-foot crab who lives in Lalotai, the realm of monsters. The conceited crustacean wants to be more than a “bottom feeder” and overcompensates for this perceived shortcoming by covering himself in all things shiny.

Rachel House (Whale Rider, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) lends her voice to Gramma Tala, Moana’s confidante and best friend, who shares her granddaughter’s special connection to the ocean. Although her son Tui, the chief of Motunui, is a no-nonsense leader, Gramma Tala most definitely dances to the beat of her own drum.

Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, Once Were Warriors) voices Moana’s father, Chief Tui, the gregarious and well-respected leader of the people of Motunui Island. Chief Tui wants Moana to follow in his footsteps as leader of their people, but fears his daughter’s draw to the ocean and the world that lies beyond their reef.

Nicole Scherzinger (Grammy-nominated singer, former Pussycat Dolls) voices Moana’s mother, Sina, who always has her daughter’s back. Playful, sharp and strong-willed, Sina appreciates Moana’s longing to be on the water, but also wants to protect her daughter from the fabled dangers beyond the reef.

Alan Tudyk, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ lucky charm (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6), is behind the voice of Heihei. Heihei is one dumb rooster—the village idiot, in fact. When the clueless chicken accidently stows away on Moana’s canoe, he lands a front-row seat for her epic journey.

The roster of characters also includes the Kakamora, an intense team of crazy, coconut-armored pirates who will stop at nothing to get what they want, and PUA, Moana’s loyal pet pig with puppy energy and an innocent puppy brain.

this looks really good cant wait to watch never can be too old for good animation movies

Finally a big name movie for Pacifika peoples to put our roots and culture on the map.I know it's just a Disney movie but I'm interested to see how they portray our traditional navigation in this film. It's just too bad the cast is mostly Maori.

This looks good. I'm into it. Every year it seems there is at least one really well done. The Secret Life of Pets was a huge letdown in my opinion, so hopefully this will be the big one.

the character design is fantastic. Love those coconut pirates.

Pacific Islander is the new Black. They are so hot right now...

Stoked. Find myself becoming more amped for upcoming amimated movies than any other genre as a whole. Would rather watch a Disney/Pixar film 100 times before a Marvel movie twice.
