Fun Facts:
-Colby hasn’t finished a fight in 7 years (2016-Max Griffin)
-Colby has 0 wins in the current Top 10, and his only Top 10 win in 3 years was against pre-retirement Masvidal, who ALSO didn’t have any Top 10 wins in 2 years.
-Most recent win over a currently active WW was Brian Barbarena in 2016. Every other win has retired or changed divisions.
-3 full title shots, 0 title wins
-2 of his 3 title shots came after more than 1 year layoffs.

Career:
vs Leon Edwards - looked washed, barely won a round because Leon grappled on purpose.

~Almost 2 year layoff~

vs Jorge Masvidal - Looked washed, Masvidal was pre-retirement. Masvidal and Colby were both severely overranked at the time, both didn’t have any current top 10 wins in 2 years. Jorge retired 1 fight later.

vs Kamaru Usman - Looked gunshy and washed. Got dropped by Usman, who looked a bit washed as well. Colby did make the fight close but clearly lost.

~1+ years layoff~

vs Tyron Woodley - Woodley was pre-retirement, super gunshy and had lost 10 rounds in a row previously. Woodley retired 1 fight later. Colby looked slow and off for the first time. Woodley got injured, Colby didn’t finish him, who only landed 78 strikes in 5 rounds and mostly held position.

~9 month layoff~

vs Kamaru Usman - Got finished. Awesome fight but sloppy as hell and looked like a bar fight, not the 2 best WW’s in the world. This was the last time Colby looked like himself.

vs Robbie Lawler - Lawler was pre retirement. Colby outlanded washed Lawler 179-78 and couldn’t finish him. Colby mostly held Lawler against the cage for 5 rounds. Very weird performance.

vs RDA - Very close fight. RDA wins based on current criteria (damage first). Colby only stayed in the fight because he had a size advantage and mostly banked on control time. RDA outstruck Colby 105-99 strikes.

when I watched rda colby the first time I was like “I don’t think colby won that second round” and rewatching it in the build up to this fight I don’t think he did, which means I give the fight to rda

Also dialed 9-1-1 on more than two occasions

You can pick apart anybody’s resume. But Colby’s an odd case where his biggest accomplishment is having two close losses to the champion. He really doesn’t have any particularly great wins. Hard to place or evaluate how good he really was/is.

I personally don’t think he beat RDA, and when you remove that his next best win is maia, which is pretty good since even though he had just lost to woodley he didn’t take a ton of damage, however maia wasn’t a top contender after the woodley loss and wouldnt get any more top 10 wins, going 3-3

Do Leon next. His run to the title was based off beating lightweights. His only good win is Luque in 2017.

So who did Leon beat besides washed up no meniscus and knee cartilage having Usman and then eye poking Belal, in the past five years?

To be fair, Leon beat someone twice that Colby lost to twice. I think it’s fair to put Leon over Colby.

You make and interesting point though. lol
