Average starting point after a kickoff return was the 28 yard line. So now a touchback would be like giving up ~7 free yards to avoid the chance of a big return. 7 of 920 returned kickoffs last year went for TDs. Don't know how many went to the 40 or more where you would rather just be giving them the touchback 35.

This is so fucking stupid, just go back to 2023 when kicking wasn't fake and gay. Let defenses play defense.

2023 we had nothing but touchbacks. The kickoff was just part of the bathroom break.

We'd have to go back to pre 2009 and before when the kickoff was the 30 and a touchback was the 20 so guys would bring the ball out even when in shallow endzone would be best. And wedge blocking was legal.

And even then with kickers getting better probably have to move it back to the 25 or 20 so kickers can't regularly kick it out the back of the endzone would have to happen

Thats fine if its a bathroom break. Let's go back to 2008 then. I dont want to see more offense. I like scoring, but I also like good defense. These rules are gayer than Freddy Mercury sucking David Bowie's dick with Elton John playing Piano Man in the background.

They announced last year at this time that they were switching to electronic measuring or something like that. I don’t think they even made it through the preseason and switched back to the chains. I assume they’ll be using this for spotting, but maybe that makes too much sense.
