I'm well aware of this. In the spirit of equality the NBA subsidizes the WNBA. Which is nice that the ladies have the opportunity to play a game they love professionally, but it's more of a PR move to get more people in general to watch basketball across the US. People that demand the WNBA remain, generally don't even watch sports and can't even name the WNBA team nearest to them. It's as popular as it's ever been because of Caitlin Clark, and even then most of that is because of the drama surrounding things outside of her ability and skill on the court. If you had even less women interested in playing basketball the WNBA's quality would drop dramatically. It's not great now, but it could get even worse if enough females gravitate away from playing.
When I said the fights would be more impressive with a larger talent pool, I'm not insinuating that it would make them watchable. Compared to men's divisions, they just wouldn't hold up regardless. Same with any sport where men and women have their respective divisions within the same sport.
However, some sports where only women compete are pretty damn compelling. Gymnastics come to mind. Balance beam and uneven bars make women look like superheros by default because there aren't men competing in those events. I know I'm speculating here, but if they added those events to the men's divisions we'd see even crazier shit go down.
