“The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
The first trailer for Tom Cruise’s new film Digger has been released, officially confirming an October 2026 theatrical debut. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Revenant and Birdman, the project marks a striking shift away from Cruise’s recent action-driven roles and into far more experimental territory.
Rather than leaning on large-scale spectacle, Digger appears to embrace a darker, more surreal tone. The film has already been described as a “catastrophic comedy”, hinting at a narrative driven by psychological tension, irony, and escalating chaos. For Cruise, this represents one of his boldest career choices in years—an intentional step outside the safety of established franchises.
Set against a destabilizing world, the story reportedly follows Digger Rockwell, a man whose personal reality begins to fracture as events spiral beyond his control. While official plot details remain limited, the early material suggests a film more concerned with mood and character than conventional storytelling.
The ensemble cast also includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy.
