Different BJJ styles for different body types...

Finding your style is like dating all the way up until marraige - you date and go out with all the "wrong ones" until you find the one you'll be with for life. You date someone, you find characteristics of each one you love, but at the same time find attributes that you KNOW you don't want in your life and can't really tolerate. You develop preferences towards dating certain type of people and even realize which ones you "just want to be friends with". Sometimes you get back together with your ex, other times it's just best to leave her be.

I've had love affairs with butterfly guard, lockdown-style half guard, and 93 guard. I cheated on my closed guard with spider guard but always prefer to be on top. My latest fling has been deep half guard, but I find mixing in DLR and reverse DLR make playing from the bottom more fun.

The point is - you never really know unless you try them all.

tl;dr - Play with all types of games and don't limit yourself to what you "think" is correct for your body type - you may surprise yourself with what you're capable of!

5'6 165 here(lots of people commenting at that height/weight)

If I was built like this at 205lbs, people would think I was a monster. As it is, I'm the "big, but tiny" guy :P

I sometimes feel like I could probably make it to 140lbs if I really had the dedication. I know other people at 5'7-8 at 155 so I feel like...fuck, what am I doing wrong? ;\

Anyway - currently doing a lot of half/deep half, starting to like glover's stuff

6'3" 175 here and flexible as hell. My long legs let me try some more "unorthodox" moves that give me an unpredictable game. It's great because my instructor has the same dimensions so my game reflects his style.

I've got a strong closed guard with an array of sweeps and subs that work well for me, but lately I've been working my half guard sweeps and my side control escapes (my worst positions by far) to correct some of my weaker spots. I always try to work what I feel is my weakest position to keep myself well rounded, after all, you can't always dictate which position you will be in.

All in all, while your body dimensions can effect your game, you've got to be prepared for whatever comes your way. Have a game, but realize that everyone else does too and you've got to be ready to neutralize what they bring to the table.
