Didn't Yoel Take The Fight On Short Notice?

Not sure if serious.

I'm out of the loop regarding how this fight was put together but I think it probably played a factor in him missing weight if that's the case.

It sucks he missed weight but at least the fight is on. It's a great match up.

That's the excuse but I think it's bogus. He was already signed to fight Branch on Feb, 24th so had to have been training already. He still had 4 weeks to drop the weight.

Yeah he took it after Whittaker pulled out due to injury a month ago.

Yes he did, so we should give him a pass for missing weight.

4 weeks right? Hardly short notice for a guy who was already training for a fight in two weeks.

It should have been Rockhold vs Big Gas anyway.

If Gastelum had won then we could have the MW title fought by two blown up WWs. Or two WW fighting at a more natural size.

Those 2 extra weeks can make all the difference between cutting 3 extra pounds.

Sorta short notice...

Romero was supposed to fight Dave Branch on the Orlando card (February 24), so he should've already been in camp and fight shape.

4 weeks to drop what 20 lbs? That's not a lot of time guys....

I believe he was scheduled to fight someone else(David Branch?) later in the month, but after Whittaker pulled out with his condition, Romero was bumped up to tonight's card.

He had a fight announced on Dec 29th to fight David Branch. Basically 2 weeks off from his original date.

Yes, he had a 4hr notice and was walking around at 245lbs, so give him a break.

Dude is 40 years old and hardly has any body fat to spare.

Given the extra two weeks he'd have made weight.

Yoel deserves props for stepping up, not hate for missing weight.

Nice try, though.

Cutting weight is different from losing weight through diet over a period of time. Cutting is the art of sucking water weight to dehydrate. Weidman cut over 30 pounds in 11 days when he took a short notice fight against Maia back when Maia was still at MW. Weidman wasn't training for a fight either. Four weeks isn't that short notice at all, especially when you're already training for a fight.

Absolutely it was short notice...
Fucks up an entire fighters schedule

Take into consideration the issues a fighter will encounter when you have a weight cut plan you have all the time and follow every fight camp. Romero was training for a fight against David Branch Febuary 24th. Trainers/nutrionists manage the weight cut for the fighter as they train. When that fighter is then notified that their fight is now 4 weeks away and for a 5 round fight for the title things change.

Then that fighter has to completely readjust his training schedule for a whole new fighter... at the same time maintain a weight cut which now means it goes from a gradually controlled cutting to having to cut larger amounts of weight in hopes to being at your mark by the fight. Basically that zaps your energy taking away from training. All while cutting weight in a healthy manner.

A whole 2 weeks prior to his already scheduled fight..........if you cant make weight in 30 days you are in the wrong weight class.
