Did the UFC and more importantly WME just shaft shogun with this opponent change...Volkan was a much more appropriate and winable fight in my opinion then his replacement Anthony smith who just dispatched and retired Rashad Evans..could this be the UFCs way of giving Shogun his walking papers?

I know at some point these two might have clashed anyways..but shoguns original opponent in volkan would of put him in title contention apon victory and at 36 years old its a good place to be given the possibility of Jones not returning anytime soon and D.Cs impending hw title run or retirement..now hes up agaisnt a fighter whos 29 hungry, and will not give him at title shot if he wins...seems suspect to me..

Theres also the other match up they made in gus whos been away for ages..coming back to face volkan immediatly asserting himself into the title picture once again..hardly seems right and reaks of fish..just saying..

Thoughts?

No he did not.

WME doesn't even probably know who Shogun is

They probably couldn't even list you the champions by each division

They just care about money

Shogun's knees shafted him long before WME came along. Still, Shogun will wreck this fool!

Yeah I'm pissed , No injury either is just makes it worse.i Wanted to see if shogun could win that volkan fight and get title shot. Damn it

Shogun probably thinks so, but Volkan was pretty likely to knock him out IMO. He is still fighting and against a less dangerous opponent so UFC may have even done him a solid lol

Well if Shogun can't beat either of them, it's probably time for him to call it a day anyways.

He was never regaining the title at this point. He's been out of prime forever now.

Volkan has the touch of death. DC beat him with his wrestling. Shogun, as much as I like him, would have nothing against him.

Volkan got the much tougher opponent in the switch lol and probably woulda slept Shogun with one of those highlight real short temple shots he does. Anthony Smith is decent but giving Rashad his 10th loss in a row isnt that deadly

Shogun was gonna get f’d up bad, and I say that as a fan. Volkan was a -460 favorite. At least he has a chance against Smith.

This gives Gus a title shot if he wins and keeps Volkan away from a title shot if he loses, bc I am sure after the way DC manhandled Volkan they don't really want to book that fight again, and they surely expect Gus to win. It also keeps Shogun kinda out of the title picture even if he wins, and moves Smith up the rankings and Shogun down if Smith wins.

They want new stars. Seems like that is what they're trying to do here, in the case of Smith.

Roy I really hope you're in Area 51 using some alien tech to fix your speed and refexes.

Wait, Shogun was fighting Volkan, and is now fighting Anthony Smith, and you are complaining Shogun is being shafted? If true, he is being gifted a W. Volkan would have destroyed Slowgun. This must be troll thread.

I'd be pissed if I was Shogun. Nobody knows of Anthony Smith. Volcan just fought DC for the strap. Guessing they would have thrown Shogun the title shot if he got past him... Would have been poetic justice for Jones mucking the world up with his cheating legacy and jacking Shogun's belt from the get.
