Did Nick Diaz waste his prime years?

Those mid-early main card fights might as well have been on prelims - he wasn't getting anywhere near ppv points or headliner pay at that point. I'm sure he wasn't straight up fighting for peanuts, but the overall point is that Diaz didn't miss out much on avoiding that career trajectory.
So the assumption is Diaz would have just become a serial loser? Then fair enough to your point. I wanted Condit to retire after the Maia fight.

More or less - Diaz wouldn't have made some big waves going forward. And agreed, at least Carlos has managed to snap that streak. Now would be a solid time for him to retire.

What a stupid fucking question.

Hey TS, do you think sitting out for the better part of a decade in their late 20s to late 30s was how every great athlete has ever been defined?

What a shit thread, and totally redundant.

I'd say he took advantage of his prime. His prime years he spent in Stikeforce where he put together a great run, long win streak and held the title for a while. He got to live the good life and be "that guy" for years. He probably played it smart.

He was 6-4 in the UFC when he left, no hope of being champ, came back and went 1-3.
Leaving and getting to be the top dog somewhere else was not a waste. It made his career bigger.

Living it up not working doesnt sound like wasting anything to me. Hed been fighting a long time before he stopped. He could train or do promotions the rest of his career and be fine.

What do you mean by "wasting" it?

Some might say someone who quits a seven figure job to hang out in a small village and fish all day wasted their earning potential. Some might say he is wasting his life by continue to work.

Wasting his athletic prime? Absolutely.
Wasting years of his life? Only he can answer that.

I just went to his page and saw that he’s 37. He was 27 went beat Daley and Penn and was very hyped to make a splash in the ufc. I know he was banned for awhile and lost his last 3 but they were against Condit (boring loss could have gone either way) and 2 of the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

I know he’s been successful in other endeavors but it just seems like there could have been so much more to his story.
I am embarrassed by the number of long-time mebmers here who are this lost. How can you ask this question? Are you next going to ask if water is wet? I mean seriously. What is going on with people? You can't be a child. wat

Nope ....Nick was past his prime against Gsp and Anderson

You mean the guy who spent the last 10 years of his athletic prime partying and doing triathlons?

Hard to say.
I can't tell if you are being cynical and sarcastic or sincere.

Or what I mean is I read it as "the guy who spent the last 10 years enjoying his life instead of getting beaten up, injured and going through weight cuts and training camps."

As a big fan I can see both sides. We’ve missed Nick fighting but from his perspective all is well. I’m happy with that, from a selfish perspective I wished he’d fought more.

That's the beauty of my post!

Nah he played it smart. He maximized the potential of his career and increased his hype and pay. He didn't need to fight frequently because of that. He minimized the wear and tear on his body as well.
