Kevin loves to talk about how tough he is and before khabib/Barboza fight he kept going on about how Barboza is a quitter. But watching back on his fight against Tony....it really looked like he was looking for a way out and could have done more to fight Tony off.

Yeah I remember that I was like: Cmon Kevin you can see that triangle coming from miles. I think he totally gassed or quit, because Ferguson got that triangle way to easy.

We are always conflating words here.

Toughness =/= not willing to quit

He had a staph infection and I'd rather give it my all and if I'm exhausted, to quit rather than go on and potentially be hospitalized.

To be fair didn't Lee have a staph infection? I feel like that definitely could've played a part.

Not making an excuse though, great win for Ferg.

I mean, he got out of that armbar perfectly before getting fucked up by elbows and caught in the triangle. He fought until the end. He said he was completely out of energy prior to the third round. From staph to a near-death weight cut, I'd say he put on a solid performance.

Can't wait to see him return this year.

He had a deadly disease and his well being was on the line, yet he still went ahead and got in the cage with a killer, if only to prove himself that he indeed belonged in the same cage as him.

Kevin is a warrior in every sense of the word, you know.

I dont know how he let that get by the AC. it was visible as all hell. Even with a staph infection he put on a hell of a performance and showed that he belongs at the top of the division.

I guarantee you wouldn’t even be able to rub one out if you had a staph infection.

I gained a lot of respect for Lee after that fight, didn’t like the guy much before.

He had a staph infection. Right over his fuckin heart lol. Not that placement really had anything to do with it. But the staph will drain you. I'm sure he gassed by the 2nd. Tony prolly broke him on top of that in the 2nd and 3rd.

Yes, he quit. Granted he was gassed, and granted it was probably because he had Staph and a terrible weight cut. If anything though, it's a testament to Lee. I'd like to see the fight remade where he is relatively healthy.

My impression was that he gave that triangle up pretty willingly, but when you consider how gassed he was combined with how fresh and aggressive Fergie was, it's completely understandable. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't necessarily hold it against a fighter for living to fight another day, depending on the circumstances.

Staph infection, terrible weight cut, giving it your all and having nothing left in the tank, and fighting El Cucuy conspire to give Lee a pass on this one.
