The power in the lefthook comes from, the hips, shoulders and core. A lot of Cuban Boxers don't even put much of their hip into it. It's all shoulder. The power comes from moving weight from the left of your body to the right of your body. In a way leaning back can be beneficial if you move the weight. In the clip you can see Izzy move his whole body and shoulders with the hooks. So while from an awkward angle. They certainly are not arm punches.

But once you can sync that with the rest of the movement with your body you don't have to overly exaggerate the twist anymore. A lot of it has to do with shifting bodyweight. It isn't all hips with power punches.

Didn't see the punch, and Izzy has otherworldly timing with his counters.
Rob's best chance is to basically point-fight. NEVER to rush and/or overextend.
Tough task considering Izzy's reach.
He's gotta be at his in-and-out finest.

Exactly, he even turns his leg a little with it. When he steps back you can see it rotating back too.
 
Noobs trying to sound like they got knowledge use two different things:

1) keep both your arms up in s textbook tight guard

2) no arm punches! Never use them.

Both claims are wrong.
 
A lot of people still don’t get KOs….if you don’t see the punch at all you can be KO’d by a CM Punk jab.

Especially when you’re on queer street and fighting Israel Adesanya.

Look at how Melvin flatlined steel chinned Hunt while literally running backwards!
