There can be no doubt or reasonable debate that conner's promotional responsibilities were arduous (means strenuous effort was required, or tiring), but he had done it before.
i think the issue he was really grappling was knowing that if (when) he lost to nate again, he would have to endure the incredibly difficult cut to 145 pounds to face the most difficult stylistic match up for him in the entire ufc--frankie teh answer edgar.
if i was in conner shoes, i cant really say that i would have done things differently--lie to millions of fans, force myself to feign confidence and act as though that i could beat nate, and even if i manage to squeak out a win, doubtful though it may be, i would then have to cut the weight to face the nightmare match up that is frankie edgar.
conner couldnt bully frankie--conner would be 20 to 30 pounds heavier, but frankie doesnt really get bullied.
conner couldnt get in between frankie's ears--mind games dont work on frankie.
conner's "power" wouldnt have teh impact he would expect or hope, and that would rattle him. he couldnt faze diaz, who was the same size as conner, and besides, size doesnt matter. nevertheless, frankie doesnt get hurt, koed, or finished.
edgar is the far superior striker, and has better footwork and faster hands.
conner knew he was on borrowed time, and was faced with two decisions--take his opportunity to quit now and blame it on promotional obligations that he previously agreed to, or stick around and have little choice but to face edgar, and watch his stock and popularity plummet after three straight losses.
and for the conner haters out there, do not use my thread to hate--this is a respectful debate, so keep it clean guys.
and before anyone starts taking smack about conner, try putting yourself in his shoes.
