He may have fought differently against Jones, but based on what we've seen prior, Jones would probably beat the DC we saw last night. However, it's reasonable to believe that Jones was juicing for most of if not all of his UFC career - so we can't be certain how good Jones looks while not cheating.
One thing we do know is that Cormier looked much more beatable than most would've thought. Not just by Jones (he's out of the picture now), but conceivably there are several legitimate threats to DC. I thought Cormier would've done better - considering he had a full camp (even if it's for Jones) with his best training partner (no more "I didn't have Cain" excuses) and he fought Anderson who hasn't officially won a fight in about 4 years), who had no training camp, who came off of significant surgery less than 2 months' ago (he was 1 week out of the recommended very period), who took the fight on 48 hours' notice, who weighed in significantly less than the weight limit (not apparently for strategy), who had essentially zero training, and who spent most of his career at least 1 weight class lower than DC. Anderson may very well be the GOAT, but while Anderson's ability to hurt DC and defend well (Cormier landed a ton of strikes but pitifully few were significant) testify to Anderson's greatness, they also indicate to me that Cormier is more beatable than we may have previously thought. I could see Rumble, Glover, or Gus beating DC - not necessarily always or handily, but certainly they have a very good chance on any given night.
