Hiya folks. How often and how much do you like playing this role? I really enjoy it and I find it helps me to see other sides of a topic much easier and clearer especially when the other side is angered or frustrated by an opposing view. The insight of response in these situations I find more revealing and informative than like minds conversing. Really only counts if you dont hold the view yourself I think. The best moments are the DC level looks of incredulity when you say yeah youre right, secretly agreeing the whole time.

Unfortuneately its become hard for me to do this irl as my friends are keen to the game now and have several times played it on me. We will play now just for fun knowing the deal. Also Im averse to engage in this manner on the interwebs as people I dont know very well seem so much more sensitive than people I do. Maybe they are, no nevermind, they definitely are.

Another thing Ive been wondering, is the internet troll not just a version of the devils advocate in many cases? If they truly believe what they say then theyre just being true and not trolling right?

I think we should all holler fuck the world with a chest full of smoke. We are all correct all of the time.

For me this is just a natural. I try finding the logical conclusion to any ideology. I thought this was just normal but it's actually not. But yea, devils advocate is a good way to think.

It was interesting when Bush was in office arguing with people about how we shouldn't just rip the constitution to shreds because of a minor attack. In the grand scale of history a death toll of 5000 or less is not exactly need to dismantle the government. People of course got mad about this and yelled about how we need to invade everyone and torture everything.

But I must say arguing with liberals is a lot more interesting. Liberalism is completely falling into the realm of madness and it's hilarious to argue sometimes. They are really arguing such insane things as -

only whites can be racist
weight doesn't affect health
men and women are equal in all ways
Learning from other cultures is cultural appropriation and racist

Modern liberals are starting to act like whacky brainwashed North Koreans and it's more fun to debate them than just violent normal old neo-conservatives.

I quit playing devil's advocate a long time ago. If you start winning the debate and you don't even care about your position, people get pissed off.

Of course many like playing the role ...it's easy ...its' easy to be an asshole, it's easy to question others...

But you know what's hard.....it's hard being authentically nice - positive to others...that's the real challenge.

Not many can do it ....

I often play devil's advocate as a way to learn and explore a point of view. What better way to test the strength, or weakness, of a viewpoint than to argue it.

I liked the movie bc u saw a black girl's nipple

It can make for a good time. Ultimately a competition between worldviews should be settled through one person taking a sincere and empathetic view of the shortcomings of the other person's position and showing how his own worldview can account for the shared successes while confronting those shortcomings in a more productive way.

I think I saw that happen once. It was a Thursday.
