Trying to suck out snake venom is completely ineffective, and could even get you infected via absorption through the gums

According to my research even a tourniquet is largely not effective. Anti venom nowadays is so effective that the best course of action is to call for help and get to a medical facility ASAP.

I wonder if old time cowboys actually ever did this? Some poor dudes last minutes were probably spent with some smelly man sucking on his ankle.

Anyone ever have any run ins with snakes? Despite spending lots of time in the desert I've never come across a rattlesnake.

Using a tourniquet on a snake such as an elapid with a neurotoxin may actually help you quite a bit. But using one with a viper that has a hemo/cytotoxin it will cause significantly more damage.

Wow, really applying a stun gun to a bite wound for medical treatment. I read through part of the pdf, but lost interest as it didn't appear to provide any value for the victim other than getting shocked like a mofo.
