Derrick Lewis: mma is easier than boxing

boxing is thousand times more competitive than MMA. you cant just jump into the sport and become a champion.

You can call it BS but I have trained with wrestlers who with little time striking are now class guys and a few top ten ranked. In the world..... yeah a striker could pick up grappling like that..... go train ffs.

i did and i'm still doing it, i call it BS.

plus wrestling is something natural for the human biomechanic, it's the most primitive and intuitive way to fight, way more than pure striking.

Well it's easier for Lewis because he's not a good boxer. He has some semblance of TDD and can go to town on lower tier fighters. There are a lot more high level strikers in boxing who would KTFO him.

MMA is easier to get in because there is a lot less talented people training

And you think boxing is more* taxing than grappling?? Come on man, what soft gym or god awful wrestling state is leading to these notions??

Derrick Lewis on UFC Unfiltered podcast says he chose mma over boxing because mma is easier.

It's a lot easier to keep it standing and only box. Grappling saps your energy way more than dancing around, throwing jabs to pace yourself. Even Muay Thai clinch fighting takes more energy than boxing. Boxers get to clinch and rest. Clinching in MT, and the fight is in another realm. Getting swept in MT, wrecks the hell out of your energy when you hit the ground....where you get a slight break to standup, but MMA...the fight keeps going into the next realm.

Lewis is probably saying that it's easier for him to make it into MMA because there are many aspects of fighting involved that he can spread out his mediocre talents about, while in Boxing.....the pool is so deep with talented Boxers .....that he has no chance in hell of breaking in to. Plus, you can be a mediocre Boxer, but when you throw fucking bombs with MMA gloves on, they can work and can KO much easier than with giant Boxing gloves.

He's right but for the wrong reason. Boxing is more popular and there's more money in it. As a result, way more people attempt boxing than MMA and the talent pool is deeper.

Wrestling is way more physically exhausting than boxing though.

Depends on your skill set? Not sure Floyd would have found MMA easier...
It is like saying Tennis is harder than pingpong because I have short legs... well not everyone has small legs!

Perhaps, but boxing is far more detrimental to your health than MMA. Sure you get to odd freak accident, but breaking your shin is a lot better than getting punched in the head 1000 times a fight.

At HW it's hard to disagree with him, but his act is also getting old. He is obviously super insecure and hides behind the "I don't care, I don't work hard" attitude so that it won't be as devastating when he gets beat.

No, because it depends. Grappling and especially Wrestling, is detrimental to a lot of your other body parts. Dudes tear out all parts of their knees, hips, and various other ligaments around their chest, arms, etc... then there are the damages to the spine. Multiple surgeries up to completely quitting BJJ/Wrestling due to severe spinal injuries that may result in never walking again. This is just from my gym.

Boxing, you can control the amount of damage by sparring light to greatly limiting hard sparring. While in Wrestling, you rarely go light.

Long term injuries to the head ain't fun, but on the bright side....if you get Parkinsons + Dementia + Alzheimer in your old age, due to constant head trauma from Boxing.....you actually won't know of much that's going on about your suffering b/c your brain is almost all gone and unable to even make new memories. While the wrecked, Wrestler's body, he will be in all sorts of arthritic pain constantly.

Since when has this big fat heavyweight been the voice of reason? Lol

Of course MMA is easier FOR HIM...

Fuckin hyperbole and personal anecdotes...

MMA is definitely harder because it incorporates not only boxing but multiple other disciplines as well.

Heavyweight boxers hold a ton. That's the only reason why Holyfield and Buster Douglas beat Tyson, imo.

Ask someone under Khabib how much time they were given to rest.

The BB's opinions are irrelevant. He's a shit fighter in the WORST division in the UFC. It blows my mind how he's even allowed to speak about MMA in general.
