News Derek Brunson part ways with the UFC

He had a good UFC career to his credit, always hovering around the top 5 and beat some solid names in his time too. Maybe he retired, but I actually think he might've popped for something was facing a 2-3yr ban at nearly 40 so maybe came to an agreement with the UFC to mutually and quietly part ways.

He has been talking about it for a while so hats off to him. Mythical Blonde Brunson will go into the legend books as a "What If" we will be talking about for ages to come.

Hope we get some clarification on what happened. I know he was close to retirement, but I feel like he still wanted to fight and now that Strickland is champ, why not give it a couple fights? Either way wish the best for him!

The UFC expects to use the older name vets like scrap parts building the next generation fighters resumes, when Brunson’s been talking about hanging it up soon and pulling out of the Dolidze fight, U Fight Cheap took the most illogical preemptive measures.

They can keep you from earning a living forever out of spite or just up and fire you one day, with zero recompense.

Baffles me how these contracts are even legal.

He was THE gatekeeper of the division. Who will take his place?

The most reliable path to the top 5. The usual path to the title is: Tavares > Brunson > Contender fight > Title shot.

Hopefully he's getting ready to enjoy a well-earned retirement! I always enjoyed Brunson's fights. His wrestling, when it was on, was a pleasure.

A shame for Roman Dolidze. 2023 Brunson was a bit of a softball matchup for him. I really would prefer Dolidze vs Allen to Allen vs Craig, but what can you do!

He's getting old and may be more desperate. Maybe he tried some things and usada caught him. Because age and he may be out a year or two, he just said fuck it and retired. Not a lot of options make sense to just drop and retire right before a scheduled fight.

Bellator will probably take him for a few fights, including a title fight against Johnny WhatsHisName who beat Mousasi. They love to do that. Bendo fought at least twice for the Bellator LW title years after he was prime or relevant.

Whether he retired or was released he had a good solid career he can look back on and be proud of. Best of luck in the future
