Cruz is as bad as Trump and maybe worse: Column
USA TODAY
Armand V. Cucciniello III 4 days ago
Judging by the collective Republican sigh of relief after Ted Cruz swept the Wisconsin primary and put the brakes on the Donald Trump juggernaut, many in the party seem to consider Cruz a “viable alternative” to Trump. But that view is nothing short of baffling.
Despite his Ivy League education, pastor-like polished oratory and apparent voter appeal, Cruz seems to know how to do only one thing in government, and that is to say “No.”
Love him or hate him, Trump knows how to make a deal. Sure, some ventures were a flop — something not uncommon for lifelong entrepreneurs. But his net worth, to the tune of $4.5 billion according to Forbes, is not exactly indicative of a dummy. His blustering speech and nonconformist policy proposals make him an unorthodox fit for the Republican nomination, but that is no reason to gravitate towards Cruz. In fact, it is a sign of short-sightedness and desperation.
Rafael Cruz, Ted’s father, recently said in an interview, “We need to get to the point where, instead of listening to the rhetoric, we look to the record. Candidates will say what people want to hear. We look at what they do and what they have done.”
Heeding the elder Cruz’s call is in no way redeeming for the junior senator from Texas. He has systematically demonstrated that he lacks the ability to negotiate, govern according to the rule of law, and navigate amicably through differences of opinion.
Cruz famously spearheaded the 2013 federal government shutdown that cost the economy $24 billion and taxpayers $2 billion. He brazenly supported Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses as required by the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also said people would “quite rightly” revolt if a brokered GOP convention in Cleveland were to produce a nominee other than him or Trump.
In the Senate, Cruz has personified the word “obstructionism” since he took office in 2013. His first vote was “Nay” on the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act — a bill authorizing $60 billion for disaster relief agencies that would in part provide much-needed federal funds for New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy. Later that year, Cruz voted against key bills like the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act; the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act; the Employment Non-Discrimination Act; and the Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act. (All passed the Senate without his vote).

The liberal MSM and party leaders illogical hate for Donald Trump must stop, as it proves what is wrong with the Democratic party.
Donald Trump is running as a deal maker. Ted Cruz is running as an obstructionist.
Yet, Trump is viewed as the threat because of this idea that he is somehow more of a race baiter than Ted Cruz is. The whole of the RNC speaks in dog whistles. The Democratic party and left leaning media have told us for years now that this is the case. Yet somehow Trump's dog whistles are more dangerous because........................???????????????..............................
See this is the problem on the left right now. The left seems so concerned with fighting over race, sex, and gender, that they have abandoned all other issues.
Here is Donald Trump running as a deal maker, and Ted Cruz running as an obstructionist, and because Trump doesn't speak with couched, and shaded speech in his dog whistle appeals to identity politics, he is the threat, not Cruz.
It is a bunch of BS, and why I hate the Democratic party today. I am not a minority. I am not gay. I am not a tranny, so the Democratic party has abandoned me. It no longer represents my interests.
The DNC is far more interested in defending "oppressed people", then they are with infrastructure spending, re-building our education system, or reforming our corrupt systems.
The right leaning posters here are not entirely wrong, the Democratic party has become the party of culture warriors, fighting the culture warriors on the right, while we all get raped by the oligarchy, including the "oppressed people".
If the Democratic party had any interest in actually fixing our country, they would be running a campaign based on telling everyone that the party of obstructionism, has been defeated, and Donald Trump is proof of this. That the Republican electorate have rejected the do nothing congress.
Instead the DNC and it's media puppets, have chosen to paint Cruz as the lesser of two evils, when he is the most extreme candidate in my lifetime.
The left's irrational hate of Donald Trump, over Ted Cruz, is proof that the left establishment is the real danger to an actual progressive movement. I am a economic progressive, and social libertarian. Seems to me that the DNC's tent has shrunk, and there is no room for me in their party. It certainly isn't my party.
