Interesting debate and not so much about Kyle talk afterwards interesting about the video from the View. It really sounds like some corporate dems like Joy are starting to run with the Democratic Socialism message. The thing is even though she gives examples like Norway, Iceland and others but US Democratic Socialism is not like their form of Socialism its not pulling things that far. They want to fix education, living wages and healthcare stick to that message and it's hard to see how that does not sell with the American people especially about the 1.5 trillion dollar tax break for corporations and real estate breaks.

Care to expand on what happened? I'm not being sarcastic: your OP is sufficient, but if you wouldn't mind summarizing, I'd appreciate it.

I wince every time I see a "debate on socialism" by television personalities. Usually the proponent is only marginally more informed than the critic.

Simple I don't see how many Americans will dislike the message about insuring their children have access to a high quality education and healthcare. The straw man comes out about Venezuela and Cuba. Joy points out we have a post office and other socialist ideas in current government. Megan seems to be reading off talking points because Joy points out right away about Scandinavia Countries and Megan just blew past it right to talking points. It seems that Bernie's wing of the party seems to be gaining traction even in Ohio there is a race going on that 2 months ago the Dem. was behind by nearly 15 points and now closed the gap to margin of error this was an area that President Trump won by 20 points.

White middle class woman who President Trump won convincingly he is now down under 30 percent will vote for him from a high of 54 percent. People are starting to realize that the jobs message and improving wages through tax cuts was the true straw man and all they have seen is 15.00 per week more and seen cost of living jump 10 percent wiping out any tax break benefits. James Thompson US Army Vet. and civil rights lawyer has joined the Justice Dems and Bernie's wing of the party. He is the kind of people it seems Democrats need more of mid westerner who can carry a strong message about living wages and schooling for the jobs of tomorrow.

I wonder how the right will tear this guy down the corporate dem's are already questioning him about appearing with Bernie and Alex. The party needs more people like him less people from New York and northern California to represent their message. Corporate Dem's are losing their minds right now heck even CNN tried to say that Bernie was the 5th most influential Dem in the party coming to 2020.

I struggle to take multi-million dollar bank account holders serious when they're proponent's of "socialism".

Venezuela is a prime example for modern times of the shit show that Socalism is. And using Scandinavia as an example, when they are finding out for themselves what a shit show they got themselves into, is hilarious, LA almost has as many legal citizens as all of Scandinavia, one fucking city

I struggle to take multi-million dollar bank account holders serious when they're proponent's of "socialism".

They are not proponents of pure socialism this is the plan by Republicans they are not against people becoming rich and have successful businesses. The problem they have is when someone is making 2 million a year wants 200,000 more in a tax break when they will see a tax break around 750 dollars for the year if they are making 30,000 to 40,000 a year. They don't see how giving 200,000 more to people making 2 million or more a year going to yield trickle down economics.

@PEB

Both parties need more "common" people at the forefront. My biggest critique of the US governmental system is too many are old fucks that first took office when floppy discs were actually floppy, never worked a true blue collar hourly job, and have too many zeros after a number with commas in their bank account.

That's people that understand economics.

I almost guarantee Joy's simple understanding is the barebones 2nd grader understanding of socialism in the simple English term of "everyone gets the same slice of the pie" so to speak.

No fucking way I’m watching The View

Who in their right mind would want to listen to hens cluck?

Why?

It's so strange to me that people seem more willing to listen/trust persons speaking out of their own interests, over persons speaking against their own interests, i.e. "I'm going to listen to this millionaire tell me he should have more money, but this millionaire who is saying he should have less really seems biased."

I mean, even in American evidentiary law, that is categorically illogical. Statements against interest are considered most likely to be true, and statements toward interest suspect.

It's the way I was raised. It's super old fashioned and admittedly not real logical but my dad turns 80 next month so... to him, anyone that has more than about low 6 figures in their bank account is a member of the lite and as such not to be trusted.

It's also the old school Slavic outlook too and the gypsy in him.

I think a lot of that has rubbed off on me too. That plus getting a poli sci degree with the thought of going to law school made me super fucking cynical and jaded by the time I was 23. There's been times where someone has donated money or done stuff to help the less fortunate for the sole purpose of trying to help and there's ALWAYS a voice at the back of my brain going "there's an ulterior motive".

It's probably why I only really have 2-3 friends and then my parents as people that I am close to.

EDIT:
One thing that concerns me about a more Scandinavian socialist style approach in this country is what's good for the goose in say... Alabama or coal country might not be good for the goose in the PNW if you get what I'm saying. I feel European countries are inherently better suited to the more communal style that socialism is because of how small the countries are.

Pull out the straw-man again your a little off on that number chief there are 24 million more people in Scandinavian Countries then in LA.

27 million in Scandinavian Countries

3.2 million in LA.

Would it help if you considered "socialism" on a scale? Then you could think of things in terms like "An improved healthcare system would be (more/less) socialized than what we have today"

Probably.

That then though feeds, for me, the issue I have when people like members of The View preach for socialism.

"Oh, we want it so these poor folks get minimum healthcare but don't touch any of my shit to help feed them"

I consider myself a social democrat. I support the welfare state, not the nationalization of industry.

Oh noes Socialism! We are all gonna die!

<Ellaria01>

I guess if people don't like seeing interest in socialism then maybe they should do something about income inequality.

I would be very open to land-value taxes replacing income taxes and an SWF replacing a lot of the safety net. So basically the opposite of you in some ways, though I'm pragmatic on it.

Also, "corporate Democrat" is a term that makes the speaker sound like an idiot.

I just don't understand why there is still a debate.
It has already been proven that Northern European style social democracy is the best system for a country all things considered.
The US just doesn't want it so they pretend they don't understand the difference between Venezuela and Denmark. Or claim that you have to pay 90% tax. The US is just fine with a lot of people living in the lower classes with a small middle class and a few very rich. That's ok but the debate which one is better is already over.

wow, someone shared a secular talk video on here.... Im surprised to be honest! Kyle is a good political commentator. Meghan got owned in this debate.... not surprising considering she's a trust fund child and has no idea about social democracy(which is actually the platform AOC and Bernie run on, they just have them confused).

I support some nationalisation of industry, but just the ones necessary for public life. But also consider myself more of a social democrat than a full blown socialist
