Elections Democratic Road to 2016 Primary Thread

Hillary Clinton is 'too big to fail' for Democrats
ap959494354654.jpg

Hillary Clinton's status as the Democrats' seemingly inevitable and overwhelming front-runner in the 2016 presidential race has some in the party fearing she's "too big to fail."

That description was used by The New York Times in a story published on Wednesday in which several Democrats expressed concern that, if Clinton goes down, she'll take the party with her.

"There is no one else — she's the whole plan," Sarah Kovner, a top Democratic fundraiser, told the paper. "She is by far the most experienced and qualified person we could possibly nominate. Not even on the horizon but on the far horizon."

Democrats See No Choice but Hillary Clinton in 2016
12DEMOCRATSjp-articleLarge-v2.jpg

They shrug off questions about Hillary Rodham Clinton’s email habits. They roll with the attacks on her family’s foundation, the big checks from foreign governments, the torpid response of her not-yet-campaign.

They have little choice: As Mrs. Clinton prepares to begin her second presidential campaign amid a froth of criticism and outrage, Democrats are not just Ready for Hillary — as supporters named one pro-Clinton “super PAC” — they are desperate for her.

We are finally almost to a v2 thread but we will have 3 options in the poll :icon_chee

You should split up the voting to:

Want Clinton/Think Clinton Will Win
Want Clinton/Think Sanders Will Win
Want Sanders/Think Sanders Will Win
Want Sanders/Think Clinton Will Win
Want O'Malley/Think O'Malley Will Win
Want O'Malley/Think Clinton Will Win
Want O'Malley/Think Sanders Will Win

That way, you will hopefully have less Sanders supporters voting that they think Bernie will win just because they want him to. I'm also just assuming that there isn't anyone who wants Clinton or Sanders but somehow thinks O'Malley will get the nom.

Yea, that may be better. I think most people know Hillary is the favorite. That's why I've been doing who you want. Same with the GOP thread. Everyone would just have picked Jeb a few months ago if I said who wins,

Hildog epitomizes the worst type of deceitful, smug, duplicitous politician.
She's brazenly irresponsible in her duties, refuses to acknowledge let alone accept
blame or criticism for anything that occurred on her watch, answers questions
with allusions to her 'book' and on top of everything, looks like dried up lizard.

anyone who votes for her hates the US and wants it debased.

I think that's the more-interesting question anyway. With her debate performance, Biden dropping out, and now the hearings, Clinton is now -1000 on Bovada (that's about the odds for GSP/Serra I so you can't say for sure, but, you know, it's pretty much over). But people still have their opinions about who they want and their reasoning behind them.

Hillary Clinton set on Brooklyn HQ, eyes April launch
As Hillary Clinton's expected April presidential launch nears, her already sizable campaign apparatus is moving into place and getting close to signing a lease for office space in Brooklyn.

Clinton and her team have recently coalesced around the New York borough, according to multiple sources, and are nearing a deal for office space at the MetroTech complex in Brooklyn.

A lease has not been signed yet, according to a source with knowledge, but very serious negotiations are ongoing and the Clinton team settled on Brooklyn after eying other locations around New York City. She ran her 2008 presidential campaign from Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington.

Clinton's voting record while in the senate was the 11th most liberal of all senators in that period, in terms of DW-Nominate score (a good objective way to answer the question). Sanders' was first. There is your objective answer.

I've been telling idiot Sanders fans for a while now that his task is to reassure moderates in the party that he's not an extremist (doesn't need to compromise on any particular issues in the process), but they take "Sanders isn't as radical as people think" to mean "your mother is a whore" judging by the reactions.
.

I feel your pain, I've been trying to shine a light on lying shills that obviously support Hillary Clinton and the establishment for months now. So, for example, when they say there is no difference between the 2, but choose to label 1 as a "moderate", it grabs my attention.

Similarly when they try and paint a pro-War (war on terror, war on drugs, war in Iraq, Libya, etc), pro-Industry at the expense of people (NAFTA, TPP, Prison Industrial Complex, MIC), and pro corruption (SuperPacs, Wall Street) as a liberal or moderate it just pops off the screen.

So if you think Bernie and Hillary are so similar, then your answer to RegAger doesn't make much sense, does it? I mean, if you think they're the same and believe "Minorities are more consistently Democrat leaning (obviously, and by a huge margin) but also the more-moderate part of the coalition", then it doesn't explain why Bernie Sanders, a Civil Rights warrior, isn't resonating, does it? Unless you think voting for the Iraq War, etc. makes her MORE moderate?

Emails Hillary Clinton Said Were Kept Could Be Lost
14email-SUB-articleLarge.jpg

As Hillary Rodham Clinton this week defended her use of a personal email account to conduct State Department business, she emphasized that because she was corresponding frequently with other department officials on their government accounts, the messages were preserved on government servers.

But the State Department disclosed on Friday that until last month it had no way of routinely preserving senior officials

Oh, brother... Take some Prozac or something, mate.

So if you think Bernie and Hillary are so similar, then your answer to RegAger doesn't make much sense, does it?

It sure does. Clinton and Sanders are similar. Sanders is perceived as being further to the left. Sanders' support is weaker among self-identified moderates in the party (a group that largely overlaps with minorities). This is all pretty simple stuff, but you have to read to understand instead of just taking every word that isn't fawning over Sanders as outrage fuel.

Unless you think voting for the Iraq War, etc. makes her MORE moderate?

Um, a big part of the reason that Sanders isn't doing well among minorities is his perceived extremism. Thus, the way for him to make inroads with them is what? To fight that perception. Right?

You've been doing the hard work, so whatever you ultimately decide is beyond reproach imo, but I personally think a better question would be "who will you vote for in the Dem primary". It's not really saying much that they think Hillary might win, as she has been favored since 2008. The gamblers could always make a vbookie thread if they wanted.

Stay classy, Hack. Is it too much for you too keep your hate inbounds?

Sanders is to the left of Hillary. That isn't even saying much, it's not very hard to be to the left of her.

You are the guy who is trying to say 2 things at the same time. That they are equally liberal, but that Bernie isn't as moderate.
And I'm not the one who is outraged there buddy, maybe you should take your first sentence in the post I'm quoting to heart.

Um, a big part of the reason that Sanders isn't doing well among minorities is his perceived extremism. Thus, the way for him to make inroads with them is what? To fight that perception. Right?

He could do a better job of explaining his position and his goals, but let's be honest; Bernie Sanders is perceived to be further to the left of Hillary Clinton because he is further to the left.

Huh? Read my posts and your responses. Your temper tantrum has no obvious trigger, and I'm not reciprocating it. You sound unhinged, man. For your own good, take it easy.

Sanders is to the left of Hillary. That isn't even saying much, it's not very hard to be to the left of her.

Well, her voting record suggests that about 90% of the senate was, and she's moved left since then.

You are the guy who is trying to say 2 things at the same time. That they are equally liberal, but that Bernie isn't as moderate.

Well, see, you're not trying to understand what I'm actually saying, are you? There isn't any significant difference between what you can expect from them, and their positions on most issues are similar. But Sanders is perceived as being an extremist, which is hurting him with moderates in the party.

And I'm not the one who is outraged there buddy, maybe you should take your first sentence in the post I'm quoting to heart.

Really? You weren't engaging in childish name-calling, lying about my positions and generally freaking out?

Al Gore allies: He’s not running in 2016
gettyimages-466103542_copy.jpg

Former Vice President Al Gore is having a moment – but he’s not running for president.

Despite a spate of recent media attention about the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee potentially challenging Hillary Clinton in 2016, those close to him tell msnbc it’s not happening.

With plans to visit politically important Iowa in May, Gore has been profiled favorably in the New York Times, was warmly welcomed at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and has been the subject of growing speculation that he might mount another presidential bid.

Bernie Sanders just killed it in Iowa. There is absolutely no way that Clinton or O'Malley will match that performance.

lulz. I asked a question and you replied with personal attacks in back to back posts.

I'm bowing out of this, Lead puts too much into these threads for them to be derailed with your hackery.

My hackery. OK, whatever, bro.

And good standing up for Lead against that evil guy who pisses you off by not having a strong opinion.

I'm shocked Jeb is cutting his staff and looks to be on his way out. I honestly thought Jeb would rise to the top after the Trump circus wore itself out.

This is huge. It means the semifinal is the real final. Trump or Carson would easily be the worst, least qualified candidates in history.

Hillary vs Bernie is for all the marbles.

If Clinton wins the nomination I already know how the post campaign voting map is gonna look.

The calls for challengers is a sign that people aren't excited about Hilary being a sure thing for nomination and supposedly the presidency.

I'd prefer Warren personally. Hillary doesn't excite me. Not that it matters, post election i'll have to once again drive past billboards insisting "xxx democratic president is the devil."

A Bernie/Trump general would be the best election of our time. I'd rather see that than a Packers Super Bowl win.

It's going to be funny if there is no opposition whatsoever to Clinton. The calls for challengers is a sign that people aren't excited about Hilary being a sure thing for nomination and supposedly the presidency.

There's TONS of signs that people aren't happy with Hillary.

The article makes a good point that time is running really short for potential candidates. They need months and months to organize, fund raise, etc., especially if they're going to take on Hillary's giant machine.

Clock's ticking and no one's making a damn move!

Webb is staffing up in Iowa, and O'Malley is definitely running so there will be a primary, but Webb will excite nobody and O'Malley doesn't seem to want to take the fight to Hillary and I believe I read even asked permission from Clinton's before deciding to run.

The one option is kinda figuring out two questions at once so it might be useful. I think the v2 thread will be the last one before the GE so may as well see the breakdown for both things

Wow, that's just awful. There aren't enough ambitious people on the Dem side and the ones who are don't want to mess with the Clintons. I still really think Hilary's campaign is going to crash and burn like 08. Just can't see how it's going to happen yet.

A Bernie/Trump general would be the best election of our time. I'd rather see that than a Packers Super Bowl win.

It'd be the best election of ANY time.

Seeing moderates cringe and hold their nose while voting for the socialist would be a riot. A good 30% chance of that happening, IMO. Hillary-Trump is at about 60%, unfortunately.

What toss up states does she win and does she win the presidency?

Bernie clowned on Hillary's flip flopping in Iowa last night. Jesus, what a speech.

Coming Soon: Hillary Clinton's Presidential Announcement

Monday is the end of the beginning for Hillary Clinton.

After a busy month of paid and unpaid appearances across the country, capped by two speeches at the beginning of this week, the next item on Clinton's public schedule is likely to be an announcement that she's running for president.

Clinton will speak at two events Monday, one at an event for the Center for American Progress and AFSCME, and another at the ceremony for the Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting. These speeches, both unpaid, are the final acts of Clinton's two-plus years since leaving the State Department, when she also wrote and promoted a memoir and campaigned for Democrats across the country in 2014.

Cliffs:
Some shots at Hillary. TPP is not the "gold standard". Mentions DOMA from the 90's being anti-gay.Always has been against Keystone Pipeline. Against invasion of Iraq.

Considering Webb once called the Clinton admin. "The most corrupt administration in modern memory," he could make things fun in the primary for Hillary but I doubt he has the money to hang. I personally would vote for Webb over Clinton and O'Malley.

I think the most likely scenarios are:

1. Clinton/Rubio
2. Clinton/Trump
3. Sanders/Rubio
4. Clinton/Cruz
5. Sanders/Trump
