Okay, for some reason I've started seeing an increase in Demetrious Johnson criticism as of late.

I suspect it's because he has a fight coming up soon, so he's been forced into our present thoughts. Also I've seen many (posted one myself) threads around PPV numbers, and Demetrious' numbers have been criticized as part of that.

The point of this post, is that I think he gets way too bad of a time, in terms of his criticism of his personality and his inability/responsibility to sell fights. I will start off by saying that I respect him highly as a fighter, but my only criticisms of him are all fight based.

Constantly he's referred to as almost unbeatable, I don't see this. He is probably unbeatable at this stage at Flyweight, because he has vastly improved well above the top guys in that division - they missed their chance to beat him, Benavidez/Dodson. People act like he's essentially never been touched at Flyweight, like it's not arguable that he lost McCall I, Benavidez I and Dodson I. I actually scored Benavidez I and Dodson I, both for the other guys. Dodson fight, especially!

My points are as follows:

Check the guy out more, he's a cool guy. I've seen him on JRE and at the UFC 2 video game launch, he's a funny guy, he's a cool guy, and he's pretty honest. He should show that more, but give him a chance.

UFC have publicly said they don't have much issue with DJ's low PPV headline numbers, because they promote it very little and spent less, so therefore they don't make huge losses. UFC, he is according to you the second best fighter in the world! Promote him more, give him the Anderson Silva treatment, it might just work!

PPV sales are low, okay. Have you seen his opponents? I've said this many a time, yes, the A-side has primary responsibility to "sell" the fight, but when he is fighting absolute nobodies who literally are only supported by friends and family like Moraga, Bagutinov, Horiguchi, Cariaso (hate that guy). Who is buying that!? The best you have to offer is Dodson and Benavidez, and even they have very few fans. Why not have a killer undercard and DJ vs Cejudo on there? Nope... Okay!

Manlet! Okay, the guy is 5'3" - supposedly men don't find that pleasing to watch. Well I guess it's unavoidable, you heard it for years in Boxing. All I'm saying is, I don't think that has much to do with it, if you could just give the guy an opponent people actually know! DJ vs Cruz, DJ vs Dillashaw?

I'm not his biggest fan guys, but the hatred and vitriol needs to get toned down. Criticize his ranking if you're going to criticize anything.

Thoughts?

MM is cool in my book and I'm a fan. I think him surpassing Anderson's record for title defenses will have more people coming around and if not then it is their loss.

Dude, I think MM has a great attitude and he's RIDICULOUSLY good.

That being said, I can't stand to watch him fight. I've tried, but I just can't.

His haters are generally the worst posters on this site and seem like stupid people in general. Fuck 'em.

I dont get the hate he gets either? seems like a chill kinda guy, likes comics and video games etc

I also think he gets a lot of hate for not being exciting, although I enjoy his fights

Why do you care what other people post? Just enjoy his fights like I do and let people bitch.

People don't like to watch flyweights. Partly because keyboard warriors think they could beat them up. Partly because there is less of a chance of a knockout.

Mostly because people hate small people.

I love em. I think everyone should own a flyweight.

Demetrius Johnson gets driven to/from school

no baby seat bro

He's been chatty lately. He tends to whine and make excuses as to why he doesn't attract fans. He doesn't seem to understand why people who already don't enjoy watching little men fight also don't like it when those little men just whine. MM could get more fans but he clearly doesn't know how.

Good post TS

MM is cool even though his PPV numbers blow. Arguably best P4p fighter in the biz. We have literally watched him grow and get leaps and bounds better

I like him. He is a gamer like me.

But his fights are not good, let's admit that.

It takes two to tango. When McCall and Dodson actually fought him, they won FOTN. He is also responsible for literally half of Dominick Cruz's highlight reel.

Can't have a Mighty Mouse thread without you, huh. Keep up the good fight brah.

MM is best in his weight no doubt. Untill he fights Cruz and Dillashaw he isn't where he wants to be. He is like Aldo a few years ago - great and the best among his peers. If he wants the big money and the big respect - step up and fight Dillshaw and Cruz and get it. Otherwise be happy being a P4P great and a average sell guy.

I like him. But he doesn't seem to understand why he isn't a draw and then continues to complain about not getting as much as the actual draws.

Is this the new lie we've come up with about Mighty Mouse?

I want to give a little background about where I started from. When I first started, I was fighting for five and five. $500 to fight, $500 to win. Making it into the big show, which was WEC at the time, I was fighting for 3 and 3. $3000 to show and $3000 to win. After that, I went up, even after I lost my first fight under the biggest organization in the world, with the UFC. I also got discretionary bonuses. My purses have gone up every time. I can't complain at all.

I love what the UFC has done for me. It's changed my life tremendously. I am able to do what I love for a living, and my wife doesn't have to work. You've got to start somewhere, and I started at the bottom. I'm not at the top yet, but I plan to keep at it and keep climbing until I get there. I think Dana White is doing the best that he can to keep everybody happy and I think he's doing a great job.

Demetrious Johnson very happy with UFC pay scale

Is this the new lie we've come up with about Mighty Mouse?

What lie? He talks about money in almost every interview.

http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/...make-history-and-be-well-paid-to-do-it-012516

Johnson is intent on making history with his career. If he does, he intends to get paid like the world-class athlete that he is.

As much as he wants to eventually fight Dominick Cruz again and capture world titles in two different weight classes, Johnson is sticking to his fight purse price tag of $2 million for "super fights." His promoter is coming off of a record year for revenue, and the champion has no qualms in telling them that they need to pay up in order to make huge fights with him attached.

"If the UFC can net-gross 600 million dollars, they can spare two million dollars of that. They wouldn't even f-cking notice that it's gone," he continued.

"I value myself at a high level and I think everybody should. I think with all these other fighters fighting out the end of their contracts and seeing what they are worth, it's good. At the end of the day, it's about can you pay your bills? We are all athletes and our windows of opportunity to make as much money as possible is short.

"So for me to go up to a different weight class and take on the champion ... I don't need to go fight Dominick Cruz. I don't need to go fight for the 135 pound belt. There's nothing in my life that says, 'arghhh, you gotta do it.' Right now I'm focused on breaking the title defenses [record], putting enough money away for me [so that] after I'm done fighting in mixed martial arts, I can have a smooth transition into my next career and have enough money to where I don't have to look back like, 'man, I should have done this and this with my money.' I want to make sure I'm well taken care of ... my mindset is to take care of my family and my kids."

OP, thank you for this. MM is the man!

What lie? He talks about money in almost every interview.
You are full of it. He threw out a number that would entice him to move up. If he keeps talking about it, it's because they keep asking him about it. He doesn't even want to move up in weight.
