"How many airline passengers does it take to kill a $40 million tax break for Delta Air Lines? 13.

The Georgia legislature removed a jet-fuel tax break from a larger tax package Thursday. Lawmakers were upset that Delta, which is headquartered in Atlanta, dropped the National Rifle Association from a discount-fare program in an effort to appear neutral on gun policy.

But the airline said only 13 passengers ever bought tickets with an NRA discount. That translates into each discount costing the airline about $3 million in tax breaks."

Whoops

Virtue signal at your own risk suckers

Why were they getting a special tax break in the first place?

I thought Republicans were against big government.

Atlanta was in the running for the new Amazon HQ. There's no way they're choosing a state where politicians pull shit like that.

Cities and states give companies tax breaks in order to bring the business there. The business creates jobs.. see also amazon headquarter relocation

Lol Amazon isn't coming anywhere near Atlanta after witnessing this shit show. They're sacrificing jobs for a political stunt.

probably in order to not fuck off to another state
this goes on all the time in corporate america, and the sports franchises clean up as well, yet it aint mentioned when people talk about "let the free market sort it out"

Hartsfield Jacksonville airport in Atlanta is the busiest airport in the country according to wiki. Delta does A LOT of business out of there.

But Delta was already there, they didnt relocate due to the tax break.

Also they dont seem to be leaving either according to your source, so i guess it was just more corporate welfare or crony capitalism.

Did the Georgian legislature also had a plan to pay for these cuts?

No. They didn't relocate. I would assume the tax fuel tax break was just additional incentive to keep Delta there. Which is normal.

I don' know about Ga. State budgets.

I bet it still goes through. Some grandstanding.

But they had no plans of moving out so we go back to the question.

If im not mistaken, airlines operate on razor thin margins.

According to Delta's website, they employ 33,000 in Georgia alone, which makes them the number 1 private employer in the state, with an economic impact of $43.5 billion a year.

Helping a company that is so important to the state is mutually beneficial.

didn't the Federal government bailout the airline industry, twice?

not sure why a state giving a tax break is too surprising. It is hilarious, however, that only 13 people used this fare discount hahahahaha
