Deiveson Figueiredo most exciting small fighter ever

>DJ’s Division was stronger

What you taking about m8? He was fighting guys like Tim Elliot, Chris Cariosso, Ray Borg, John Moraga, etc in TITLE FIGHTS... embarrassing.

He went to the minor leagues on an L to Cejudo when the division was finally gaining steam.

You can admire his longevity, but Mighty Mouse strength of schedule was a joke. And his inability to finish fights was also a knock. People would leave fights he would main event lol:

Figueiredo just fought a guy from DWCS.
His only other title fights against Benavidez whom DJ also beat and the second time even more convincingly than Figueiredo has done.

So DJ’s era definitely comprised of a more competitive flyweight division.

Hahaha no way. DJ fought in the weakest division of all time.
Figs time in the cage with Joe B compared to DJs time in the cage with Joe B is not even comparable.

It's almost like he likes fighting. Weird. It's refreshing to see a champ fight with purpose. Somebody said earlier that he fights like his opponents are trying to steal from him. They are. They're trying to steal a W, money, fame, glory, legacy, and future money. Fighters need to realize this and follow suit. At the very least (in most cases where both guys get win/show) the other guy is trying to take half your money and your potential bonus.

The whole point of fighting is to showcase your skills by finishing your opponent. Fight like you mean it. Fig is beast. Hespect.

You really think DJ beat Joe B more convincingly than Fig? MM arguably lost their first encounter lol, and it took Joe B running 30mph into Johnson’s fist to get the only KO of his UFC career lol

Fig vs Joe B 2 is literally the most DOMINANT destruction in UFC title fight history.

I said that DJ was in a tougher flyweight division than Figueiredo is currently.
If you are unwilling to take the natural evolution of the sport into account then in that case I do see what you mean but still disagree. This current flyweight crop is not that great imo. During DJ’s era there were more fighters capable of becoming champion coming through and they were fresher, that is my take on it.

He's like a smaller better version of Lineker but with a sick ground game.

I love it.

You sure do have an obsession with bashing Johnson; you make the same criticisms in every thread he's brought up and when confronted with a rebuttal you move on, it's quite hilarious actually.

LOL who even takes Mighty Ducks opinion seriously?

- This is the same guy who got EXILED by Dom from BW and never bothered testing himself again.

- Blatantly DUCKED Dillishaw and opted to fight Ray friggin Borg in a UFC title fight

- Fought the Tim Elliots, Chris Carrioso, John Moragas, etc of the UFC in title fights... embarrassing.

- Had a make believe weight class created because he couldn’t cut it at BW

- Got beat by Cejudo and sent packing to the minor leagues.

Nobody takes this guys career seriously LOL.

To be fair, Johnson was only training twice a week up until the McCall rematch while working a full time construction job.

Firstly, Dillashaw wasn't the champion at the time and had never competed at Flyweight, so there was no guarantee that he could make the weight, and if he didn't then it wouldn't count as a title defense, thereby preventing Johnson from breaking the consecutive defense record. Secondly, Johnson said he'd fight Dillashaw, but that if Dillashaw missed weight then Johnson would get his purse; despite their so-called "guarantee" that Dillashaw would make weight, they weren't willing to put their money where their mouths were and turned down the offer (which shows how empty their guarantee was to begin with).

All of the modern UFC champions have those kinds of fights in their defenses, singling out Johnson for three (out of eleven) is nothing more than your bias showing.

Why are you acting like Johnson himself created Flyweight? And getting to fight for the BW title when training only twice per week while working a full time factory job is astonishing.

Many thought he won against Cejudo; furthermore, his TKO victory over Cejudo trumps a controversial decision.

Factually that's wrong: 17 of his 30 wins were by KO, TKO, or Submission; which means the majority of his wins didn't even make it to decision.

100% of the media favored Johnson in his first fight against Dodson; 57% of the media favored Johnson in the first McCall fight; 100% of the media favored Johnson in the second McCall fight; 80% of the media favored Johnson in the first Benavidez fight. And even if we ignored all of that and pretend like all those fights were "controversial decisions", that only accounts for 13% of his total wins (which is again, factually not "most of MM's wins").

Johnson called out Cruz, Dillashaw, and Garbrandt while they were all champions and his only demand was a $1-2 million TOTAL purse, but the UFC didn't want to pay that small amount in spite of them claiming it was a "super fight"; the fight falling through is on the UFC, not Johnson.
The Flyweight division was stronger when Johnson was champion; evident by the fact that Figueiredo won the title against a post-prime Benavidez (and Johnson defeated a prime Benavidez twice). Perez actually got TKO'd by Benavidez, so how exactly is he stronger competition than what Johnson faced?

And Cejudo got finished by Johnson and defeated by Benavidez, so to suggest that Johnson's competition was weaker than today is hilariously biased.

The difference between fig & Cejudo to the so called goat Mighty Mouse is comical

both these dudes putting on the most entertaining fights possible against anyone and everyone

meanwhile when Tj offered to come down to FLW Mighty Mouse said he’d rather be stripped and have the FLW division abolished than have to fight TJ

Imagine hating Johnson so much you try to rewrite history just to make him look bad.

The UFC threatened to close the division if he didn't fight Dillashaw, so Johnson stood his ground and called their bluff.

"They said it's either TJ or we close the flyweight division," Johnson said Monday on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting's Shaheen Al-Shatti‏). "And I said, 'Close the motherf-----g division then.'"

yeah that’s exactly what I was referring to

thanks for helping find the exact quote and assisting me in proving what a coward MM is lmao!

he would have rather let all his fellow FLWs go jobless before fighting TJ hahahaha

thanks for helping proving my point I really appreciate it!

Except for the fact that Johnson called out Dillashaw, Cruz, and Garbrandt all while they were champions.

But keep hating ;).

Hes a Flyweight that can actually dish out damage. I can get behind that. War Fig
