Defense Soap.. worth it?

I use defense soap after every training session. Love that stuff.

Rest assured...we actually do have cancer clinics that uses only Defense Soap as a pre surgery scrub.

I'm not really on one side of this debate or another.....but as a physician I'm a little skeptical about this.

Nozza,

You brought up a good point about adaptation and I am very glad you did. The melaleuca tree or (Tea Tree) has been around for millions of years. The oils that this tree produces fights off bacteria and fungus that would kill the tree without it. If you believe in adaptation (which you pointed to in your last post) then you would have to believe that the melaleuca tree and the oils that is produces has adapted, and very well, over the past millions of years.

I wasn't aware tea tree oil trees have been attacked by MRSA and staph all this time and so have developed a perfect response to those specific infections.

The human species has been around for a long time, living with TB, smallpox and the common cold yet somehow our protection isn't perfect and we're still capable of being infected and even killed by these pathogens. So it doesn't automatically follow that just because a species is not extinct that it has developed a perfect defence. In fact it's almost never the case that they have. Normally it's a arms race that never ennds.

Yet again you're just making semi-educated guesses about how things might be rather than providing proof of how they are.

And so what if some supposedly clinic uses the soap? Some doctors perform acupuncture and homeopathy despite the lack of evidence they work. Again it's the appeal to authority rather than actual evidence. Which clinic is this?

No where did I say anything about developing a perfect response to specific situations. If you want to continue an intelligent debate please do not put words into my mouth. You eluded to the theory of adaptation and I responded to that. It's a theory and nothing more however you brought it up apparently inadvertently.

These cancer clinics are our customers. I cannot share their name here on a forum. As a doctor I think you can appreciate the level of confidentiality we provide our customers. If you cannot take me for my word on this then you may as well disregard this entire thread.

Can you share with us what type of a doctor you are. Doctors with grappling experience are always of great interest to me. In all seriousness if you would be interested in conducting such a study to end this debate I would be interested in hiring you. Please contact me at [email protected] so that we can exchange information.

Defense soap,

I got the soap, shower gel, ans tshirt.

I appreciate it. Will try and will post how it works/feels.

I decided to try the defense soap shower gel and I'm noticing that it's not really lathering all that well. Anyone else experiencing this?

SeZomg,

I am honored your first post ever on Sherdog was regarding Defense Soap. Wish it we a little more positive. Did you try working the lather with a loofa.

No, I use this soap everyday. It is my main soap. I use a loofa. You can try a small hand towel as well.

Squirt some soap in a loofa and work the soap into it.

Would love a free sample, interested in the product. Let me know, Guy.

I'm an Emergency Medicine physician. I appreciate the offer but I don't have the time or the resources to really assist in any research. And I understand confidentiality quite well, but don't know why what type of soap a clinic uses would have to be confidential. And I remain skeptical that a surgeon would perform surgery having used only Defense Soap as his means of scrubbing in.

Like I said, I'm not really on one side of this debate or another. It's certainly possible there might be benefits to this type of soap after grappling practice. I don't have a strong opinion either way.

I got my defense soap. I like it overall. Not sure how to judge it myself other than I haven't come down with anything, being on the wrestling mats coaching 2 different teams, for the 3 weeks I have used it. Still haven't decided whether it is worth it, but so far, so good.

I got RW during training. Got rid of it. Went back. Got it again. Likely due to some guy who had no idea he had it and kept spreading it. Anyhow. Started using defense soap and never got it again.

Unless mind over matter applies to RW, I'd say it works.

I've been using the Defense soap for a week, so far so good. I like it but it's still too early to know.

But on the soap box it says I should use loofa (I forgot the exact word).

Is it recommended to use a loofa even with soap bar? If yes, what about with people with sensitive skin (dries up)?

Defense Soap, you seem like a pretty stand-up guy. Enough that I'd like to try your product and see for myself.

I'll send you an email. Thanks.
