What are your opinions on the idea of combining your international sports teams? What are the opinions of most of your countryman?

As someone with nearly no knowledge of the nuances of British culture, I've never understood why you wouldn't want to combine them. Is there that much national pride/animosity?

Sorry if this topic has been done recently. I did a couple quick searches and didn't see anything.

We do in some sports............

Olympics, for example.

Can't comment on UK, but in the last cup, a lot of people were asking to join Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, just so we could see playing in the same team Messi, Neymar and Suarez. Haha, it would never happen, but it is a cool idea. Such a sick team it would be.
(Just to explain, Uruguay was part of Brazil for a brief time)

That seems a little silly, since none of those nations are currently governed together.

They still would've lost to Germany in the last cup.

No they weren't.

Do you think we'll ever get to see Messi, Neymar and Suarez all play on the same team?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

What do you mean by, "No, they werent"? I am from Brazil, and a lot of people here were joking with that because they wanted to see a super team in the world cup. In 2014, that would be a sick team. The three playing together was beautiful.

Gone from "a lot of people were asking for it" to "a lot of people were joking with that".

That's fair. I guess it's mostly just football (FIFA) and rugby that I was thinking of.

We do it in Rugby League and Rugby Union. The British & Irish Lions is a touring team composed of the 4 home nations & Ireland, and every 4 years they visit one of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. And until fairly recently, they’d get panned more or less everywhere they visited, apart from a couple of notable tour wins.

Britain competed as a combined Football team in the 2012 Olympics. Believe they were fairly shite, can’t remember to be honest.

Would be good to see Europe take on The Americas in football some time. That could be pretty fucking tasty.

It's a complete clusterfuck....every major sport has a different way of dividing the constituent states of the UK. And then the republic of Ireland is there in the mix too.

As the first 2 international teams and the inventors of the modern game, Scotland and England have the oldest rivalry in football...they would never combine.

I could see England and Wales combining in football, as they do in cricket.
But they will NEVER combine in rugby, other than for the "British and Irish lions" overseas tours very occasionally.

Northern Ireland is a whole different problem. Some sports they are part of Ireland and some they are part of UK. Some they are individual.

Lebron James is recruiting Brazil, Spain, and whatever the other good teams are to come play with the USA

Definitely too much nationalism for their ever to be support for it plus of course matches between the sub nations of the UK in sports like Football and Rugby predate any other kind of internationals in those sports.

you're asking for nations to join together when united fans dislike Liverpool players, and vice versa, Kane and Dele Alli are a right couple of nonces to the fans of England's Europa league giants, so on and so forth.....also each FA has a vote at FIFA elections, join together and that would be reduced from four to one.

Honestly I think the enthusiasm for the England national team from football fans here has always been talked up too much, I mean yes the ideal of traveling to see matches is popular and people get excited for major events but really most fans are more interested in the club game.

We get constant talk about training facilties/styles but I think a lot of the issue England have in terms of talent is simply down the FA, the fans and the media only being interested in players from a handful of larger sides. I mean as a Palace fan I look at players like Zaha and Moses, both of whome came though our youth system and both of whome England couldn't be bothered with even to the degree of offering them one competitive game to lock them down.

I think that's the same culture as well that leads to players wasting their careers on the bench at big clubs because they believe its going to help with national team prospects.

A combined UK rugby team? Get to fuck.

Also, part of the UK is already part of the Irish team. The different nations of the UK all have their own strong national identities and rivalries, definitely wouldnt want to join together. Not regularly anyway, there is a British & Irish lions tour once every 4 years.

The top northern hemisphere rugby tournament - the Six Nations was started as the Four Nations (ie. of the U.K., Ireland was still part then). Far too much history there.

In terms of football no player from the UK apart from Gareth Bale from Wales would get into the England team.

Aaron Ramsay, Ben Davies, Kieran Tierney, Jonny Evans would all be in England's current squad imo.
